  1. Sorry to ask a none Kit related question....But I have a KIA Sorento 2.5 CRDi XS 2006 and since being at the Stoneleigh kit car show, I have noticed the gearstick shakes erratically (not quite jumping out of gear....yet) It seems to be when the car is in standing still (neutral or in gear) and the revs are at tick over. Could this be the engine or gearbox mounts are shot? Once the car is moving or the revs are above 1500 the engine/gearbox settles and the stick is more sturdy (as normal). Can I check this theory by supporting the engine with a jack etc... Any advice appreciated. TIA Dino & Nikki
  2. The kit and the Rhocaravan are going
  3. Cheers Alan Nice pictures....I might get copies of the originals off you next time we meet-up.
  4. Just for anybody who cannot find the pictures: http://www.rhocar.org/index.php?showtopic=41980#entry333931
  5. No issues there as I'm away when our local meet-up is on. I was going to suggest dropping them off at your house (any excuse to get the kit out)
  6. Is anybody in the Midlands going to this event? If the weather is kind, then it could be a good day out on Saturday and the the hosts have offered a select area to show off the cars. But this looks a very small (new) charity event on the 16th May. Andi posted the event here: http://www.rhocar.org/index.php?showtopic=41771 But more info is here: Official website: http://www.moiracanalfestival.co.uk/home Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/moiracanalfestival?fref=ts Maps: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Moira,+Swadlincote,+Leicestershire+DE12+6AT/@52.7331271,-1.5359677,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x4879fe567a946513:0xe5169d649c689254 Any feedback appreciated as Nikki has emailed them and the hosts would like to know numbers (if there is any interest).
  7. Yep... I remember everybody asking who they belong to. If they need somebody to pick them up, then maybe Rich or myself can get them at the Leicester meet-up.
  8. Who was at this meet-up and needed wet weather gear for the kit? Somebody mentioned it in conversation and I just saw this. A bit of a bargain on eBay at the moment and surely they could arrange a courier: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Robin-Hood-Kit-Car-Wet-Weather-Cover-/271859935235?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3f4c1d6803 A bit cheaper than here (OUCH): http://www.kitspares.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=1024&search=weather
  9. Another great weekend and a big thank you to everybody for all the support, food, drink and entertainment. Blessed with a mixture of different types of weather, which didn't stop me getting sunburnt (again...) Hog roast was a welcome relief from the copious amounts of beer, but the stuffing should be banned from Nick & Dan, I'm amazed when Andi lit a fag the gazebo didn't explode. Great to see familiar faces (& new ones) and actually have bit of fun in some of the kits. The kennels, children's creche and beer tent all served there purpose and helped Nikki & myself to chill out. Finally thanks to Nick & Jon for the evenings entertainment, I never realised that mobile phones had so many different uses .....Only depressing part was driving back into work this morning past all the show signs and knowing I have to turn left and not right at the Stoneleigh entrance (I work opposite the show).
  10. Tiny circle, Thomas the tank & the kit
  11. My poor kit would never have seen any of you lot. ......Great footage, especially convoy thru the town and the crowds staring
  12. finished making a couple a final adjustments and decided on a test drive. Finally a year later and the kit and I bonded tonight. It's not fast, it's fun... Something just clicked... The Weather stayed fine. No breakdowns, no bitchin. Just me the kit and the road. Now I finally get it, it's the people waving, the smell of petrol, oil and the peace of mind as u travel the country lanes looking for the next excuse to take it out. Never really appreciated the fun of driving as the sun sets, wow what a shopping trip. Damn... Got to to home and give the keys back to the wife. Oh well back home safe and sound, better still I have a new friend.... The kit Aaaaaah....... .....bedtime story over, goodnight!
  13. I know, I have walked and cycled to and from the pub quite often in the passed I will there a bit later got to go and sort out the caravan first on the way home from work. R u going?
  14. Quick update: the kit will be at the show.. Sneaked out of work early and tested our theory. Capped off everything and ran pipes into single inlet. Car, brakes and gears are much better. Just need to make it a permanent fix for the drive over to stoneleigh. Then after the show remove manifold again drill/tap a dedicated 6mm tit for the brake and gearbox. Proof in the pudding will be when Nikki takes car out. Ps- can anybody take a timing light to the stoneleigh kit car show, as I need to get the timing sorted again.
  15. Interestingly DANSt has a vacuum bar on the manifold, but the pipes all lead to dizzy: http://danstengineering.co.uk/image/cache/data/balance%20bar%20fitted-500x500.JPG Then he has a separate pipe for the inlet for the brake servo. I'm not taking the bloody manifold off again just to drill and tap 6mm inlet for the brake & gearbox I have been out dinner time and collected a few bits and bobs, to attempt a bodge everything together true 'Blue Peter' style. ......now where did I leave the gaffer tape and shovel
  16. Cheers guys for the ideas, lots of options and testing tonight to see what's upsetting Nikki & the car and give some feedback in the morning. Looks like a trip out dinnertime to get a few bits & bobs to block a few pipes etc.... Don't you worry, we will be at the show, with or without Kit.
  17. Cheers dude.... One-way valve on brake servo as before changes. Drilled 3mm holes in all inlets. Gearbox vacuum is simply for the gear changes, no valves. Welding tips? something like this maybe: http://www.ebay.co.u...=item3384b33079
  18. Just been looking on-line about distributors, the distributor shaft seal maybe??? OIL LEAK: Not impressed if it is this or the o-ring or shaft seal bloody distributor is less than 12 months old. If it is this, then I will not be recommended anything from Accuspark ever again as there quality testing department doesn't exist. We had to ask for extra spark plugs (due to some of the original ones having cross threads) First timing light didn't work (replacement is crap and flickers) HT leads keep popping off when the engine cools and had to request a replacement lead for one that fell apart. Looks like now the distributor is leaking oil from either the o-ring or shaft seal. Now gonna get Nikki to test the after sales support again (which is usually quite good)....And see if they have any seals for the distributor. ......Sorry, rant over. BIKE CARB VACCUUM Cannot find any air leaks, so from common sense can only assume the inlet is not producing enough of a vacuum for the servo and gearbox. It was working off one inlet before, but now the vacuum is shared across the 4 inlets and even thou logic suggests there should be more of a vacuum it seems to struggling. I put this down to the extra breathing space in the new inlets. Tonight after work will be kids swimming lessons and then start the night-shift on the car. I intend on putting in a quick fix and hopefully this will be enough to get the car to the show or even the meet-up on Wednesday. I will block all the inlet ports except one and run this into the vacuum pipe to see if this produces enough pressure for the gearbox and brakes to perform better. If this works, then I will need to re-assess why the extra inlets don't work or seriously think about removing the gearbox, brake servo and capping off the inlets in October. If blocking off the inlet holes works tonight, then I will look into making a smaller vacuum pipe and hopefully this will provide more pressure, thus creating a better vacuum for the gearbox and brakes. Please stop me now from wasting any time, if this sounds like BS or has already been tried. .....I needed the break last night to think things over.
  19. Plus point.... At least the wife got some housework done instead driving the kit
  20. Aaaaarrrgggghh....... If I could swear now, everybody would think I have tourette syndrome. Just bled radiator, very little air, but did find that the thermostat switch, electrical connector had popped off, so that explains the overheating... Now fixed Carbs still running fine. No air leaks on vacuum, but brakes are shot. Didn't test gear changes, cos I want to do the timing. Aaaarrrgggh.... But now my timing light is bust. I reckon I just bust a tooth in anger
  21. I hope not.... Distrib is less than a year old
  22. Looks like all the screwing about has upset the kit. Overheating might be trapped air and needs bleeding. Brake and gear changes might be an air leak or not enough pressure from the vacuum. The car running like a dog , will most definitely be timing. Unless anybody has any other suggestions??? Typically time is running out for me, might have to stop sleeping to get more hours in the days
  23. Cheers...will do....No pleasing her indoors! I need to take it out for proper blast. Probably just another air leak. Bit of wd40 on the fittings will hopefully point me in the right direction. Another quickie (ooeeeeer missus). Do the distributors have some kind of oil venting? The oil leak on my kit looks like it's coming from the distributor, but not the o-ring, but underneath the cap.
