  1. Now, this post breaches Forum rules in the most deceptive way I've ever witnessed Grim old son and you should be ashamed of yourself, struck off and preferably flogged with a Kipper.

Pint is what you claim for payment but I'm not fooling for that old chestnut!!! I may be deceived into believing I would be procuring a glass of that flat Brown stuff in a dimpled receptacle with a Handle that passes for Beer in some dingy Sheffield house of dubious repute for a little over a quid.

Or a Pint could refer to a crafted and chilled French, Belgium or German Lager in a softy Southern bar in Guildford where you'll be lucky to see change from a Fiver!!

Which is it you schemer because if you think I'm wasting money on that Northern tosh, you've got another thing coming :D

  2. I'm looking for a 12v Battery / Batteries to power a small electric outboard.

Current 88Ah Lead Calcium batteries weigh about 18kg which in a small inflatable is quite a lot so I'm looking for a lightweight option such as Lithium ion or Polymer units without paying mega bucks.

    Any ideas chaps?

  3. I know exactly what you mean Florin. They should be grateful Im compromising the BHP / Tonne by taking them at all :)

As an aside, are you aware of the new Camera that's just out? Apparently the shutter speed is so fast that you can take a picture of a woman with her mouth shut!!

    :D

  4. Blimey o'Riley Snapper. Proper head banging and no mistake :)

I may have a way around the sound issue Tractor. My can is a bit shorted and my manifold is inboard so am thinking of locating the end can inboard with just the exit pointing 45 degree away and down under the bottom of the chassis. Bit Aussie V8 like.

Bit of sound insulation around scuttle and passenger footwell and no more external exhaust.

  5. I'm a Confessed muppet on anything after fuel exploded and have (probably) a silly question.

After the manifold and 4 into 1 collector, what must happen to the gasses to get optimum power.

I'm thinking of buying a stubby end can and finishing it just after the collector so it's easier for the passenger to get out without leaving horrible skin marks smoking on my existing can. Fortunately the cans quite load so it drowns out the screaming but the odour of burning fiancé is still rather unpalatable.

So, are there any considerations or consequences to performance by shortening the pipe and fitting a stubby can?

  6. I had a similar issue but was actually a Face Palm prob.

Carbs at correct angle. Cleaned and all set to correct height but fuel dripping out?

Rechecked everything but still happening so after a few hours of buggering about I gave Richard a bell and confessed my incompetence.

We went through the same diagnosis I had previously completed but at the end of it the phone line from Dunsfold to Nottingham remained a muddle of confusion until we started chasing back the fuel line.

Turned out I had connected up the fuel to the overflow and not the feed in. Doh!

  7. I think the most complete Donor will be the MX5. Engine, Ignition, injectors, Steering, Hubs all round, Gearbox and Diff can all be used with a few other bits and bobs I believe.

Not a lot of power though. Anyone with much experience of what can be done for a reasonable cost to the 1.8 or is it worth looking at the 2.5 4 cylinder Duratec?

  8. Few interesting ideas.

Has anyone been stupid enough to look at a RX8?

Saw Richard at Autosport and we discussed the virtues of the Zero over the Hood. Although the Hood looks more like the 2B, the technology is closer to the Zero so things like the lower suspension all round is the same. It's a coin flip at the moment :)

So, the Chassis is down to a choice of 2 and this year will be about deciding on a Donor, procuring it, stripping and reconditioning parts and expanding my build area ready for commencement next year.

  9. I welded two vertical rectangular box sections between the top and bottom chassis tubes allowing me to position the wishbones in the optimal position without being compromised. I then used 2 wishbones from a catering van off ebay.

  10. Not too worried about Sub-frame as going double wishbone on the rear,

I'm trying to think of a Donor where I can rip out Diff, Gearbox, Front and Rear brakes, Steering, Engine and anything else that might be used. It needs to be light and capable of producing over 175 BHP without much effort or preferably out of the box.

Now, that's quite a lot to ask for so just speculating at this stage :)

  11. Just doing some winter day dreaming and was wondering what people have used for different Donors.

Yep, we know about Sierra's and MX5's etc but who's used anything a bit different.

    Beemers, MR2s, Hondas, Jags etc.

Any that are better for Donor parts over others?

  12. I have a 2l Silvertop with a short oil filter and fits nicely next to the steering column.

Don't know the part number because I just pop down a friendly non-chain auto part store and match it up but if you need a part number I will drive down and get it for you.
