  1. It must have been '66/67 sorry can't remember which Brown or Nero it was. There was also an American there called the Mitchigan Mad Man who had a V8 engined bike who crashed into the finishing timing lights trying to go faster than Alf, he didn't achieve it. The problem was Hagon broke the British record but shouldn't have been at the meeting as he was in in the wrong association Bhra? or something so I don't think it was recognised. Not bad for a 1920s JAP engine.

  2. Roy I don't know what this cam is it is not on my list of Piper cams but I, like many others have a Piper 285 cam and find it good, I don't think I would go any wilder for everyday use. I have a flowed injection head as per Dave Andrews instructions (and with his help too!) which perhaps I should have skimmed a bit to increase the CR and a DGAS, it runs fine without problems.

  3. Someone recently mentioned Santa Pod on here and I would just like to say that my daughter and I went about 2 weeks ago to see what it was like now. It was GREAT! there were lots of bikes running with fearless (crazy) riders, the fastest I saw had a terminal speed of 188. Included in the many cars there was a class for street legal cars, they had to do a road cruise of 20 miles the day before, there was a couple of Ford 100Es a 105E an FD Vauxhall Victor, that did about 160 but the fastest was a green G reg Audi, externally pretty standard that hit 182! Closer up it had 500 cui engine where the dash should be, a blower in front of that and where the passenger seat should have been were lots of nos bottles. Look out for it at the local traffic lights. there was a top fuel that someone was learning to drive, 6000 hp, the sound of that made your body shake when he took off. They just started up a Jet car when the rain came down so that was the end. It was an enjoyable time, and you can just wander around the pit area and chat to everyone, they all seemed friendly. The previous time I went was in the late 60s, it hasn't changed a great deal in that time but the cars and bikes have.

  4. I used to wear those goggles when riding motorbikes in the 60s then went upmarket and got a Turbovisor, I think I must have been their only customer but you did look really silly with that! Are you you going to fit 19" skinny wire wheels too? :p

  5. Ian I had hoped to write it down but didn't, basically it was to copy a user init file from my rescue disc into the registry which then allowed me to open windows then I had to go into the registry to change a logon script back to what it should be then re boot and abracadbra it worked. Sorry if that was a bit too simplistic but it took some time, if only I had another pair of hands.

  6. Tried various things including your suggestion Ian but got nowhere, in the end phoned Dell and with the aid of a very helpful man in Bangalore (should have been Delhi!) back and running without losing anything, Yippee. :)

  7. Hi there nothing to do with Hoodz but my Pc at home runs XP home and I have 4 users set up. Last night though it decided that whichever user was clicked to start it would very briefly try to log on but then the message says logging off then saving your settings and takes you back to the start up screen. Can anyone help? can I break into it? I have Norton Av up to date which had run the day before.

    Peter :boohoo:

  8. Chris I think you are right I can't see that you can just replace 1 gear as the diameters will be different! To get it right by changing the diff it will need something like a 3.25:1 ratio. An option is to get a gearbox made for the speedo cable somewhere about 1:1.2 to slow the cable down, I think that Speedy Cables do that sort of thing.

  9. Jason, just check that as you rev the engine up you are getting more advance on the timing, the marks will appear to move anticlockwise. This is to check that the mechanical advance in the dizzy is working. If this happens leave it as it is, well remember to reconnect the vacuum pipe! :p
