    Help!

Hi Nigel. Have tried this and double checked several times. How important is it for the rotor arm to be at 4 o'clock. My rotor arm was at about 7 o'clock so set that as 1 and followed round 3,4,2. Thanks

    Help!

Hi Andi. The carbs were off eBay and are standard, which should mean 1.4 jets and using a zxr pump. Pump works fine as tested by disconnecting from carbs and pumps into a jar. Even if a pour fuel down the bores I get nothing. It gotta be a timing issue!! Cheers Steve

    Help!

Hi all. Looking for ideas. Have double checked tdc for crank and cam and all ok. Double checked timing with rocker cover off. I have a spark at the plugs and the plugs smell of petrol. I can hearth carbs squirting the fuel but not a thing. Battery is fullncharged and the engine turns easy enough and you can hear the compression coming out the exhaust. What am I missing?? Thanks guys

    Help!

Thanks for all the advise. I think I need to go back to the beginning and check all timings. My cousin camber and did the timing in about 15 mins so going to double check everything. Is the Haynes manual easy/ accurate enough a guide to follow? Cheers

    Help!

Hi all Been trying to get my engine started without success. If is a 2ltr Pinto with ZX6R carbs. I am running the inductive ignition system. So far i have got the engine spinning on the starter. I have fuel going into the carbs, I have spark at the plugs and i have tried every combination on the ignition. I have tried fuel down the bores and the closest i have come in the 6 hours of try are 2 massive backfires!! What i don't have is a running engine. Anyone got an ideas on what i can try next. Or a fool proof way to getting it started. I am wondering how to check the fuel is getting to the plugs. Took the plugs out and they are not wet to the touch but heavy smell of petrol on them? Is it worth compression testing, could this affect it? How do i know if the spark is big enough? it has a visible spark across the gap when earth on the exhaust manifold. Any ideas or help greatly appreciated. Steve

    Wiring

Hi Tim I have just done my premier loom and have all the wiring lists. The big A3 sheet and the 6 page a4 booklet. If you don't have these let me know and i can scan them for you. Once you know which stalks you have it is easy, but the difference is 1 set are switched live and the other is switch earth so it is important to know which you have. Cheers Steve

    Wiring

If you unscrew the switches from the colum you can see the part number bg83 etc. The pin numbers are on the switch pin base. I have just done mine so if you need any help let me know. HTH Steve

    Coil

If you have a multimeter you can test the ohms to check it is the coil. The procedure is in the Haynes manual with what the readings should be. HTH Steve

  14. Andy This is what the dizzy looks like http://nw.rhocar.org/sierra%20ignition%20sytem.jpg Thanks
  15. The one I need has a vacuum on the side and a 3 pin plug. It is not the efi one which has the square plug on the side or the points one which has only 1 wire coming out of it. Will get a picture for you. Thanks
  16. Hi Andy If you have one that would be ace. Let me know how much you want for it. Cheers Steve
  17. Hi all I am after a distributor for the inductive ignition system. From what I think this is the carb dizzy from 82-85. Beer tokens waiting Thanks Steve
  18. Thanks Nigel. Mine is wire up correctly as per your notes and double checked against the gbs demo car. What I have discovered is that I have the efi dizzy which is wrong. I need the carb inductive carb but was after the part number as the first thing the kid in the local motor factor said was what's a dizzy followed by what's a Sierra!! Thanks for your help Steve
  19. Well I am gutted. Got everything prep'd and ready. Oil in, Jerry can of petrol started pre start checks on timing, plug leads and spark!!! No spark!!! End up buying new coil to change from balast to non balast, no joy. Tested wiring, traced wiring to check connected right, got other to also check and still no joy. Issue is that although the coil is getting a 12v supply nothing is coming out. Nothing out the ht at the coil or at the dizzy. After a few hours of testing and head scratching, I am going to take a trip to gbs tomorrow and swap parts to see if it's the parts or something else. If anyone has any good ideas, I am running a pinto with ignition amplifier and hall effect dizzy. Wired up as per Nigel (long boarder) diagram. Cheers Steve
  20. Hi all. Going for first engine start tomorrow. Have done the usual checks, torque on bolts, battery on charge overnight, Bob to hold fire extinguisher etc If anyone has any words of wisdom on how to best approach this I would be glad to hear. Got video camera on charge so hopefully a you tube clip tomorrow!!!! Cheers Steve

    Ford Wheels

Hi Got a set of 5 wheels. Standard ford off an escort I think. Not pretty but good as build wheels. Need the garage space so free to a good home. Tyres are just legal. Markings on the wheels are 6jx14x41. Tyres are 185/60/14. Collection from Bromsgrove. If I don't get any takers by next Wednesday I will donate them to the scrap man. Cheers Steve
  22. Thanks guys. Was having a senior moment. After relooking at the pump I remembered 1 side needed connecting to the tank! I keep looking for things to be difficult. Thanks for the replies. Steve

    Bike Fuel Pump

Hi guys, round 2 with the bike carbs Got the bike carb now, zxr7 and have a few questions, again. The pump has a plug lead with 2 pins. I am guessing this is live & earth? The pump also has 2 outlets. Do I need to blank 1 off or bring 2 into 1. What is the best way to plumb it in? Thanks for the help. Pictures showing installs would be nice. Steve
