  1. as the title does anyone know what size nuts/thread is requried for the sliding pillar suspention in particular the bottom nut?? i have searched the thrads but can not find anything surley someone has lost one previously and had to get a replacement. one thing i do know is that it is a fine thread.

  3. just replied to your pm and then read the post. i think they are the ones i have which do not fit. its the bit at the bottom that looks suspicious. the overall length is the same i believe but the actual chrome shaft is shorter. total length 410mm chrome shft length 340mm top thread 50mm bottom stub 20mm with about 5 mm thread bot may have been cut

  6. I know i have posted loads on here and have received a fair amount of help from some very nice people . I have been given a set of chrome shafts to enable me to put the sliding pillars back together but although greatly appriciated they are aftermarket ones and are not suitable . I only need to replace one of them as the other one is ok. This is a last ditch appeal to anyone who has a chrome shaft (Ford) that i can either purchase/swap or borrow never to be returned lol ( would make an additional donation to hoody bear ). the alternative is to get the broken one drilled and a new stud put in but time is against me hence the appeal. can travel most places (company car and fuel). hopefully someone has one lying around and i can get back on the road for stoneleigh and see you all there! many thanks in anticipation keith
  7. Hi, Got some more chrome shafts from a very nicce chap to replace the one's that had broken. However they are not genuine for ones. they are the same lenth and width bu the crome shat is shorter with a longer stud at the bottom, The stud is also thinner. can these be used or am i back to square 1 regards keith
  8. that would be great martin, i have the spring and shocks etc its just the previous owner has welded the shaft to the bottom plate on one side for some reason (guess it broke at some point) and i need to remove it to make some repares. if you have the bottom plate would also be great will gladly supply some beer tokens :-) in exchange many thanks keith
  9. hi, has anyone got any spares for the sliding pillar suspention, i need a new shaft and the bottom plates as a minimum but a complete set would be ace. regards keith

  17. anyone used one of these?? the theory looks good and should be tuff. and for all the lazy's you could use a drill to tighten the bolt (easy)
  18. that nothing like what i took off but looks much better
  19. i have removed mine recently and they were just bolted through, the holes used are showing signs of stress so will be putting struts accross mine when they go back in for definate!
  20. yahh pics worked, IT i can do! sliding pillocks mmmm not so good lol!
  21. Thanks for the info, has made things a little clearer but still a little puzzled. the bearing i have is pic 1 which i believe is not going to be suitable, the pic i am thinking of that will do what you discribe is pic 2 thats if i have put them on right
  22. ok think i have most bits i need to put the pillars back together, one question though. Not sure how to put it but here goes. I have a replacement bearing for the top and as recommended by others alread i am planning to fit a washer on top to spread the load. however what is the purpose of the bearing as if i fit a washer over the top of it does it not just become a bush? the plate ontop of the spring will spread across both rings at the bottom and the washer will do the same on the top thus rendering it useless. even if i stick to the origional way all the load will be on the centre ring of the bearing again just funtioning a bush?? i cant quite get my head around what the origional one would have done as it just sat ontop of the spring with a peice of pipe ontop and cant fathem how this would provide any bearing type activity. also bearing are not deisigned to funtion in this way are they? not that i am that clued up on this sort of thing, but the bottom of the suspention uses a compliance bush, if what i am saying above is correct can i not do the same for the top? any help will be greatly appriciated. i am also still after a copy of the vids to see how the origional desgn goes togetherif anyone has them to lend thanks keith
