    500 Hrs

I know the feeling. As the 'summer' weather hasn't been that amazing, I've been in the garage nearly every night, and lots of the weekends....really feel that it's coming on. Have you got a backup for when there's no garage??
  5. Ah, great. Looks quite easy to do. Cheers James
  6. Haven't done this bit yet, but sounds reasonably straight forwards. But..... ....if you overlap the flanges and drill holes through the two pieces, how do you get to the inside of it to tighten up the nuts? Or have you used self tapping screws?
  7. I was hoping that with the edge trim, thin foam and cloth, that this would count as 'non rigid material' and therefore only need to be 5mm diameter? I guess it isn't much trouble to fabricate something as you've suggested too, just to be on the safe side. Cheers James
  8. Guys I know the topic of "how much padding is needed on the underside of the dashboard?" has been covered loads already on the forum, but I can't find the answer to what I'm thinking about..... Is just using edgeing (the usual stuff supplied by RH) and covering with thin foam and the cloth enough?? Cheers James
  9. Finished mine off now. No leaks (yet!) Only had to buy the flexi pipe for c£10 from burtons. The pipe is sold as suitable for brake fluid, so hopefull that will be enough to keep the sva man happy.
  10. Hi Andrew You need to cut the cable in to two. You can then feed both ends through the plate, back out underneath and then around the bit which connects to the eye of the handbrake lever. You can then use something like small cable clamps to clamp each free end to the other bit of the cable, if that makes sense. For SVA, the cable must be able to self compensate - ie you can't just rigidly fix both ends to the handbrake (as was first instructed by RH). Hope this helps James

    I Fear Change!

Oh, the wheels have gone! Only just got my 4th wheel (tried really hard to get it too, without loads of spam), now I get a square block instead! Beaten to it!

Looks even more professional. Is the fast reply button new, or have I just not noticed it? Pretty handy, either way!

    Bledin' Brakes

Latest update.... I bought an easibleed kit. It didn't come with a cap that fitted to the remote reservoir, so I had to make one. Took ages, but with g-clap, more tubing, and some sealant got a solution that worked perfectly. Really like this method, but unfortunately didn’t get any more air out. Then took out the rear nipples and but them straight into the master cylinder. Couldn’t do this with the fronts as the nipples are different sizes. Still no really firm brake though. (Checked front callipers, and bleed nipples at top). Tried to buy some larger nipples from halfords, but they don’t sell nipples at all – will have to try and find a motor factors, I guess. Then I can isolate the master cylinder. I’m now starting to think it’s either 1 – master cylinder. Trapped air that I just can’t get out, or it’s just knackered (but I be surprised if it was, as it’s new). Is it possible to check this? Can I just try to take it apart? 2 – trapped air in the pipes between the remote cylinder and the master cylinder. Would this cause a problem? The route of the pipes does go up and down, but not sure if this would be an issue? Any more thoughts appreciated! James

    First Drive

Excellent news! Hope you enjoy the driving. (like the plate too)
  16. They've gone to the effort of taking a picture, pulling together a load of info n it (which is reasonably detailed), putting it on ebay (with paypal, which is even more effort) and replying to buyer's questions. But can't be bothered to take off the tarpaulin, because it might be a bit tricky to put back on. They're having a laugh.

    Bledin' Brakes

Arghhh, getting frustrated now! Just spent over two hours messing with the brakes and still not there. Cleaned the front offside nipple and seating, and that appears to function correctly now. So, with the engine off, the pedal appears pretty firm. (Although, if I put ALL my weight on it and jump up and down, it does just bottom out). I thought I’d done it…….but with engine on, it easily bottoms out. So, I'm guessing there must still be some air trapped in somewhere (rather than any leaks, as the pedal always stays where it is, rather than sinking, and no visible signs of leakage). I've redone the clamping of all flexi's, and looking at each individual circuit. All appear to be the same - ie the pedal moves down very slightly more when you remove the clamp from that circuit - and no one circuit appears to cause that much of a problem. Next, I'm thinking about.... 1. Buying an easybleed kit. And letting that do some work (Mrs. H is starting to moan when helping now). 2. Trying to push the slave cylinders back in, as suggested about. Is there any technique to doing this - or should I just use some bigish claps?? I don't think it is the master cylinder (as this is brand new). Is there any thing else I should try looking at (before I start kicking it, or just decide to not bother with the servo!). Cheers James
  18. I had a corsa as my first car. Would much rather have had an old MGB - would have leant so much more about cars, and been able to cruise (as that's what you do in your first car....?) around in real style. Would expect the insurance to be much better (maybe even specialist insurance as classic car?) and possibly exempt from tax too.

    Bledin' Brakes

OK... I've been methodically clamping things up, and found the problem to be in the front offside caliper. With clap on this flexi, nice and firm (although I've not tried it with the engine on yet) and can't get pedal to floor however hard I try . But with clamp off, very spongy again. I've played around bleeding this corner, but can't seam to fix it. One thing I have noticed, is that I don't really get a good stream coming out of the nipple. With Mrs H pushing the brake pedal, I undo the nipple a little, and an initial amount of brake fluid comes out, then it pretty much stops, but comes through the threads instead Could this be a faulty nipple? Or could this be a symptom of something else? Any suggestions please..... PS clamps from wilkinson were not much cop as broke one on first use. Though I guess £2.29 for 3 g-clamps isn't going to get you much quality.....!

    Wikipedia

Been having a look at wikipedia and the article on kit cars... There's already a section for Robin Hoods, but not much detail yet. Think there's an opoprtunity for one of us (preferable someone with a lot more knowledge than I have....) to beef this up and get a few photos of our cars! What's everyone think??

    Which Kit?

The superspec kit is pretty substantial, and can take a variety of engines. Maybe worth considering too...

    Bledin' Brakes

Great, many thanks for all the replies, guys. I feel a lot better now I've got a list of things I can try out to fix it. I'll be sourcing some clamps and getting busy with them at the weekend. James
