    Worrying Whine!

Guys, just grab the TV remote, make sure you watch football, golf, boxing, political debates, anything on Men & Motors, cowboy films, films where you have to listen & think (!!) or motor racing. You'll soon get told where to go... As for babe magnets, my son helped me build the car for a year with the promise that he could drive it, expecting it would be just that. On his first accompanied outing, with no heater, his girlfriend had runny eye makeup, seriously backcombed hair, earache, and a bad attitude by then time she got back. The more mature (female) generation brought up travelling on scooters, motor bikes & open topped buses seem much more resilient. Bob.
  2. Hi Richard, just to clarify....I have a stainless bodied, pillar suspension'd car with full stainless exhaust, which seems to have a different steering column to yours. When I built the car, the exhaust touched the top of the body cutout, (2.0 engine) so I increased the size of the hole by about an inch at the top. You may have to do the same. Titanfast covers all the edges anyway. Cheers, Bob. PS I will be changing to wishbones by the end of the month, meaning I have to change the lower part of the steering column too. And the rack; and the alternator; and the lower cooling hose......etc etc. If it turns out I don't need to cannibalise any of the lower column, you're welcome to it. Cheers, Bob
  3. Boggy, Road and Race transmissions (01959 525105). Is that a Biggin Hill number? Are you out this way? If so I may be able to help with collecting the diff, but only this week. The estate is getting chopped in on Saturday for a new 'un, no soggy diffs are going in that one! Email tucker_bob@hotmail.com if interested. Cheers, Bob.
  4. Hi Richard, RHS = Right Hand Side RHE = Robin Hood Engineering!!! Bob
  5. Hi Richard, I managed to remove my 4 into 1 with the engine in situ to fit exhaust wrap. I had to release the servo bolts from the pedal box & the cylinder & "wiggle " the servo out, leaving the cylinder movable but still connected to the pipes. Then undo the RHS engine mount & jack up the engine. Mine was even more fiddly to replace with exhaust wrap & 4 jubilee clips on the end, but it can be done. Bob
  6. Europa can supply aircraft grade flexible filler hose. It makes life much easier, but measure what you need carefully, it costs £1 per INCH. Bob
  7. Hi Ant, dont use aluminium to attach the wing. With all the shaking & movement its likely to fracture very quickly. Stick with mild steel for any fixings. I'll post a pic of my wing fixing to Photos, BT's B Bob.
  8. Alan, there's no need to worry......they're perfectly safe at 70. You wouldn't go faster than that..... would you? Just make sure that the front of the wing points slightly down, and fits reasonably close to the tyre. If it acts like a huge scoop, facing forwards and high above the wheel, there will be a substantial load on it at any speed. Use large steel & rubber washers under the bolt heads to spread the load over a bigger area of the fibreglass. Check often for cracks. Cheers, Bob

    Co Limit

I had an MOT at the same time as the SVA. They checked against 3.5 and 1200 for an 88 engine. Bob
  10. Hi Andy, I've used 2 DGAS carbs on my Hood (not at the same time!) , & had small problems with both. The first was simply one blocked idle jet, obviously there's 2, clear them both out. The second was the anti stall device. It looks like another pump jet cover, but has a vacuum pipe connection. You don't need it, disconnect it & block the vacuum pipe leading to the manifold. Bob.
  11. I had the big round indicators & drain pipe, which I've recycled as a heater vent! Bob
  12. Hi Mitch, I passed SVA with M/C indicators using 21v bulbs, but I mounted them on tubing which passes right through the nose cone. Its epoxied to the nose cone, & covered in black shrinkwrap tube. I tacked a nut on the end of it, ground off the flats & fitted the indicators to it, running the wire inside it. The tube inside the nose cone provides a handy place to hang the indicator wiring Cheers, Bob.
  13. Hi Richard, The 10 inch wheel only gains 1/2 inch clearance. I had the same problem (Thunder Thighs!) I just raised the height of the column by shortening the "catapult" shaped sheet which the column hangs off. This gave an extra 1 & 1/2 inches & (for me) a better driving position. HTH Bob.
