    Charity

when i spoke to mick he mentioned that he had earlier looked into the idea of giving little trips in a hood for some of the handicapped children at a school he's involved with. however he told me that it got bogged down with the problems of insurance, and security checks on those people that intended to take thew kids out and understandably he gave up on the idea!!!! However, the trips for potential buyers would be an excellent idea, especially if we could involved richard to the extent that if someone asks him if they can have a ride in a hood, he can tell them to wait until the next show where RHOCAR do trips for charity? We night even be able to convince him of the benefits for his good self and the company in terms of sales too... paul

    Charity

I had a thought the other day about whether the club could get involved in any charity events. I know in the midlands theres a bikers club that organises a yearly trip to the local hospital or childrens home etc to deliver easter eggs, and christmas presents etc, does anyone have experience of similar events? I've spoken to Mick and he said that he'd had similar thoughts last year, but what with the financial situation at present with subs not in, the club cant really get involved in a financial way, but would be prepared to back any ideas if they had reasonable support. I dont know.....it would be great publicity for the club, but as for what we could do I'm not sure. What do you think? Paul
  4. the place in nottinghsm where we had ours done was £30 for the rocker cover and a metal disk for covering the spare wheel. paul

  6. Stuart I may be wrong but I'm sure that theres something about this on Ant Allens site, i remember i read something on there the other day. sorry i cant be more specific paul http://www.ant-a.co.uk/
  7. thanks for the replies, and i agree with you chris getting specialist suppliers into the scheme is the most important factor. Most businesses, even the smallest of them have a web site now, as they are so easy to set up. However, what tends to happen with these type of businesses is that all the sales still need to be done through "normal" means, so there will just be a description of the product and a telephine number. if someone else took care of the payment aspect, smaller more specialist businesses could benefit from online sales. although many of us now buy things online, there are much larger numbers of people who are put off the idea, byt the time it takes to find your way round various sites, and the different initial log ins for each site. I dont deny that there are some ahem "problems" with the idea, and I'm not attached to it (i just need to get the assignment done!) but there could be some very real benefits. your average kit car builder could: order a couple of metres of carpet from a trim place, a set of alloys from a wheel refurbisher, a wishbone conversion kit from RS Jigtec, maybe a book on sports cars from a book shop, and a book a track day at curborough (!!) and only have to log into one site, and only have to give his payment details once. it sounds nice, but the difficult bit would be finding the niche market! thanks again Paul ps just imagine if you could order online at RS Jigtec....Rizla would be bankrupt by now!
  8. i suppose it isa bit heavy , but have you seen the size of that BMW engine thats in the one at jigtec? that might make it "interesting" at least. returning to the kaig: the guy who owned it at the time we were in touch with him made quite a good argument for how they could be cheaply put together, and cheaply sold and still return a decent profit. however, you have to wonder, if its that easy why he isnt doing it himself????? maybe because the only missing ingredient in the plan is the customers to buy them in the first place! paul
  9. the expansion tank will come in handy, especially when you're stuck in traffic round the country lanes of le mans in the sweltering heat! Paul
  10. Hello guys, as part of the ongoing (and seemingly never ending) studies, I'm currently looking into online shopping in certain niche markets, like for example the kit car builder market, and I wondered how many of you buy things like tools, and spare parts online instead of a trip to a scrappy or a specialist like europa or demon tweaks etc. The idea i have is for an online department store, specifically for specialist user groups that would bring together relevant small vendors into one big place, with one log in, and one simple payment system. For users of this board it might include things like, "Parts for Older Cars", "Woolies" the trim people, "Vulcan Engineering", and of course our friends "RS Jigtec" Probably having read this board for a while met a few members and been to a few shows, and got a picture of the typical RH build/er it would also have somewhere you could get hold of Prozac, and an online Beer Wholesaler or two! Its hoped that if buying online was safer to do and easier to find the relevant things you want, more people might be tempted to do it. it would also help small vendors sell online without the hassle of running the website and payment facilities. So the question really is what percentage of stuff do you or have you bought for your car online, and what percentage did you buy personally from the shop itself? Cheers Paul (Student : needs to pass and get a job again soon to help pay for the family RS Jigtec habit! )
  11. i was recently told that chrome plating's not what it used to be, as they are a lot more stingy with the various coats now than they used to be. We had some chroming done for the hood, and within a year little flecks were appearing!

    Detling

there's a big difference in the different shows that I've been to in the past 2 years, but big or small they're all preferable to traipsing round homebase, or sainsburys!

    Detling

i quite like those twin headlights, not sure about those great things on stalks that are nearly wider than the whole car though!
  16. It looks like an excellent bit of cooperation between the company and the club, and it must be thanks to the present committee for forging much closer links (so it seems) with RH. I dont know how many other companies would bother to put a 2 page spread about the OC in their catalogue, but its to the credit of the club and the company. Cheers guys Paul
  17. speaking of nuts and all things similar, always make sure that you've got extra long studs in the wheels. fitting alloys means that standard studs only grip by a few threads. last summer on the way to newark show, two of ours sheared off one wheel, with one managing to hit me in the car!

    Is This A Wise Donor?

how about the Impreza engine? the new wrx does 0-60 in just under 5, and thats with all that unecessary metal and excess seating strapped to it! Just imagine that in a hood! or go the old RH way and shoehorn a V12 jag into it. (I was glad to hear the other day that the V12 installation is still alive and well with uncle richard! I'd love to see that appear at one of the shows :-) Paul
  19. no luck i'm afraid chris, tried off and on for most of the morning but no one was in. paul

    Wednesday Giggle

Only three days into the world of work again after a 6 month break, and I've had enough already! I'm bored myself this morning, but i did get a couple of jokes the other day. 1. Q. Whats a *bleep*zu? A. One with no animals 2. Q. What do you call a monkey with a stick of dynamite up its bottom? A. A Baboom! Paul Need some sunshine, an open road and the hood to make it all better!
  22. did you get the emails riz?
  23. hello, since i've spotted my name on this thread i thought i could put in an appearance! Hopefully the height "problem" will be partially solved by adjustments to the peddles. I think Bob is doing a cut and shut job on them to move the business end of each peddle further down the car, which shoiuld mean that i can slide down a bit lower, instead of having to twist my legs into odd shapes to get at them! I'll take the camera on Saturday Rizla, and hopefully post you an update of the "big project" cant wait. What stage is it at now? Paul

"Mini Cooper Robot Site Hoax Associated With 'I, Robot' Movie? A web site that appears to reveal photos, videos and some details on the creation of a "transformer" type giant robot by one Colin Mayhew out of a Mini Cooper is simply too amazing to be true. I think this very sophisticated faux "enthusiast" web site -- sophisticated in its perfect lack of sophistication -- is part of a promotional tie-in between the Mini Cooper people and the makers of the upcoming "I, Robot" movie"
