  1. Hope to be there after the food.
  2. Not sure the cost of the fat boy chassis as that wasn't available then but my price actually included stainless panels, hoops, black wheel upgrade and specailly made rear wing upgrade with cycle wing rears. Must be much more expensive now than when I bought.
  3. I can't really comment on the new price list. I just found my original proforma from GBS and this also is very low compared to what you have been priced. I mentioned before my costs but they seem ridiculously low compared to other people. But it was 3 years ago and Graham (Bone) whinged like hell to Iain and Richard and got even more of a reduction on the extras we needed. We also paid cash for two kits. Maybe we were just lucky at the time to get the deals we did. I kept every receipt and priced up, it came to at most £7k. Most expensive individual extra was the gauges, even managed to acquire those at cost price. Sport seats, seatbelts and fully adjustable shocks were free of charge. Silencer and exhasut manifold we got at cost price. The loom was cheap but completely different from now. Basically just wires. It took me hours to work it out. Unfortunately the prices seem to be a lot now. But I suppose the zero was a new car when we got it and we managed to buy them early on.
  4. I had the same problem and although it looked as though it would return fully, the tension in the cable prevented it from doing so. I attached a spring to the bottom of the arm where the accelerator cable attaches on the carbs and then attached the other end of the spring to the chassis tubing. It seems to work and haven't really had any issues. Make sure that the cable has no loose strands. I once had this catch and this prevented the accerator from returning. Had to turn off the engine and coast to a stop.
  5. Hi, I fancy a drive out this Sunday (if the weather is okay), so may pop over cross country if that's okay. Cheers Ian (Taff)
  6. Seriously?? I can't recall actually paying for the loom. Pretty sure it was part of the kit, and it certainly wasn't plug and play, spent ages making all the points on it. When Graham and I bought ours we had a very good deal. Also, we complained lots and lots as we were told at the time we could build a complete car with our kits and that was not the case so had various other items at cost price too. Having gone down SVA route instead of IVA, fortunately missed on the extra cost there. But I must admit to not including tools in my costings. Again though I do tend to be a bit of a ebay junky finding bargains, even managed to pick up a SIP 130 MIG welder for a tenner as it was broken, took an hour to clean up the points to get it working. Other tools I managed to get for Christmas pressies etc. I was lucky in having a full motor vehicle department to help out at times when I needed parts too which is a bonus. Friends in the motor trade are useful, as is any type of discount you can bag yourself in local motor factors. Always a good idea to get to know them. I would say to research exactly what you want the car to do too. I looked at TB's to start but the cost of bike carbs (£30 for zx6rs) and (at the time) a megajolt pack for £40 (make yourself) was too good to miss out on and a hell of a lot cheaper for just a bit less extra oomph.
  7. Well, my mrs is an accountant, so I pretty much had to run everything by her before I paid for it!!! I also kept receipts of everything. I estimated, apart from a few things here and there, that it cost me roughly £6500-£7000. First off, me and Bone (Graham) bought ours at the same time for cash so got some reduction on price. The next I found a good donor, XR3i, for dirt cheap off ebay, £120 as it had a blown head gasket. I stripped and rebuilt the engine and had the head skimmed for free in work, I also sold the stuff I didn't use off the car so the engine cost £80. I obtained another donor for free, a Sierra minus the engine, again from work. I work in a college. I also purchased a lot of bits and bobs from ebay very cheaply, motorbike carbs, fuel pump, etc, even managed to find things like full rear diff with disc brakes from a Sierra Cossie for approx £100, just cos they wouldn't post. Petrol cost me about £25. I also scoured different cars for bits at local scrapyard. I made a lot of parts such as inlet manifold. The only thing I really spent money on was the kit itself and gauges. So I do think it can be done cheaply, but I do like the thought of making something myself to do a job instead of buying something. Timescale picked up in July finished by March next year, 9 months, but that was because I wanted to get it in for SVA rather than IVA, cost again you see!!!!
  8. Great day out, thanks for organising it, and also a thanks to everyone for being so considerate with Neil. He also had a great day out too, cheers see you all soon Taff
  9. I'm thinking of driving up from Bracknell. Hope the weather is ok, the forecast is good for down here but not so good there. But don't fancy the motorway all the way.

  12. Hi just found out about this, and wondered if the TVH club should try and get some space for exhibiting our cars. Here's the direct link: Linky There is also the Windsor Classic car show on Sunday 12th September if anyone is interested too. linky
  13. Hi turned up at 12.45 and was there until 13.45 and didn't see anybody else. I didn't know I could go until the last minute but thought others may have been there. Oh well... At least I had a nice drive out
  14. May be interested if you're going past the Guildford route. Live in Bracknell so will have to have a quick blast over to Guildford, so if there's a meet there at 8.30ish count me in Taff
