Radius Edges

On recent SVA inspector did not accept the hole through which the exhaust passes through the side panel not having a radius edge.

 

Ditto the edge of the exhaust heat protector which i had put on snap on edge trim (not fire resistant).

 

Can anyone suggest an easy fix to this.

Can you draw something on the attached photo (of how I've done mine - although not SVA'd yet) and explain a bit further?

i had snap on edging on mine (both the exit hole and the heatshield)

it was ok at lb (not even commented on) and still hasnt caught fire

I had no edge trim round the exhaust hole at LB and passed (retest last monday!) I had trim on the leading edge of the silencer cover and failed so I trimmed the cover to be about 1/8 in longer than the silencer and the hammered it round the silencer rim. To get it to curve you need to cut some thin slots. Then I worked it over with a fine sander (Dremmel like ) to get it smooth. A bit laborious but it looks OK.

PS according to the RS website edge trim (RS part # 823-550) has a temp range of -40 -> +80 degC maybe you can convince the SVA man that yours wont get above 80! There is, in the SVA section I think, a post of someone doing just that.

Perhaps extend the exhaust wrap an inch or two through the exit hole and use the trim on the hole in the panel, should convince the SVA that it now won't melt.

I am surprised at this result - surely the ball thingie can't reach the edge if the manufold is poking out.

 

Anyway I used normal RH supplied snap and it passed no probs.

I have a rather fetching ( NOT ) heat shield that covers the whole exhaust and passed the SVA OK with it fitted it is sitting at the back of my garage if you would like to try it.
