basically we are looking at the number of hops to get to the site and the times it takes to see if there is a routing issue on the network

The tracerts all look pretty good to be honest, nothing obvious. But in plain english, every time you talk or get a request from my server (This site etc.) your computer passes information through all the ones int hat list to get here, then it comes back the same way The numbers after each line represent how long each "Hop" takes. * represents a time out (e.g. no response, or that router has turned off ping information).

 

As for the hop from London to Philadelphia 85ms is pretty good imo (Each hop has a server name, usually the server includes a location to help trace problems, so hop 7 has the name London in it and 8 has Philly in it)

 

How is it today though?

I was referring o the fact that they shouldn't need to go across the pond (and back?!?). Also, the fact that the philly hop appears to be having intermittent problems...from enforcers output:

I really don't like any hop taking longer than 100ms, especially considering that (i assume) planetdps.co.uk should be fairly local for you all. For comparison, i am not even seeing over 100ms (VERY close tho) for san jose to uk:

Anyone know how to do tracert? Or easier still Ping Plotter http://www.pingplotter.com/downloads/pngplt_1.exe just run this and trace to www.rhocar.org (sample 20 times with a 1 second interval) then use "Edit | copy as text" and you should end up with

Yes, you are right. The AOL times are actually a good bit better than your times for the pond-hopping. However, it appears that everyone of them have the periodic 16-bit overflow on that philly hop (-32764ms). I would call it in to AOL, and have their network guys look at it (good luck w/ AOL tech support!!!! ).

Morning folks. I'm having an on-line chat with an AOL adviser .... this site works perfectly for me through Internet Explorer .... they are working on a fix for me to carry on through aol....

Ok here's the advice ...

 

"Close AOL. Click START, select PROGRAMS or ALL PROGRAMS, click AMERICA ONLINE, then click AOL SYSTEM INFORMATION.

 

When the AOL System Information tool is open, click the UTILITIES tab. Click UNINSTALL AOL ADAPTER. A message displays when it's complete. Click the OK button. Restart your computer. You can then sign onto the AOL software again."

If IE works fine form your PC but not AOL, then it sounds like an AOL cache issue somewhere. Mitch is still having a lot of problems, and live support is not helping him much either!

I have been on with 3 operators who have each assured me that their fix will do it.

 

So far I have 'Rebuilt AOL Adapter' and done a 'Quick Restore'. Neither have worked. Looks like I'm just going to have to get used to Internet Explorer when accessing the site.

thanks for all you help with this, im now on site via IE (didnt know i could do this) and worked first time, even the "advisor" on aol couldnt get on properly, but still tried the clear browser cach *bleep*s,

 

made my mind up, changing suppliers come Nov when contract expires, but after Jims (and Pete from Yorks) problems wont be gong talktalk either.
