Zetec Blacktop Engine Number

I'm a bit confused.com! Ive been looking for the engine number on my 2.0 Zetec year 1999/2000, I found one that starts XS7 and a block number 19k99. Ive read other posts that say the actual number is by the g/box bell housing on the exhaust side. Having looked and rubbed off some paint I cant read anything in that area! So can anyone tell me the right answer and how Im gonna prove my engines age for IVA if its not the number starting XS7......

Its there, on the exhaust side. i cant read mine as well but I can see it there can't just make out whats on it. I thinking I would try emery cloth and then take a picture. hopefully the flash might highlight it.

I went back over the garage and used a batt powered drill on slow speed with a wire brush and sure enough its there EDDC etc. I would highly recommend to anyone in an earlier part of the build than me to do this b4 fitting the engine!

By the way, do I need to prove my engines age considering its got a CAT?

You may have to prove it for IVA. Many testers accept the Burtons chart from their catalogue.

No need to prove the age John as you have a cat,,,,, the cat there is the admission that it is post 1992,,,, its a good idea to take a pic of the engine number as the digital image shows the number better and the DVLA woman wont be able to read it for toffee..
