Hi I'm running a standard 2litre pinto, timed the engine up today and seems to be running great on tick over, but when rev it, loads of sooty muck comes out the exhaust and a cloud of smoke, does the carb need adjusting? If so how is this done?

Thanks all

The VV carb has always been a troublesome one and if I remember a tad difficult to tune (I.e. impossible) it would be better to acquire another carb fitted to the engine by Ford, something that will bolt straight on that has some adjustment available.

Hi

VV was an attempt at a constant depression carb, like SU or Strongburge. main problem was that fuel enrichment (choke) was basically a fuel tap.

If I remember, it also had some anti tamper stuff on it.

shows basic adjustment details

but check all vacum hoses, I belive it had some vac control of fuel enrichment, the auto choke was also renown for causing problems, a manual conversion was often fitted.

Regards
