Gearbox Mounting

Hi all. Now the car is running and on the road the shake down is starting. All seems to be good so far. Loving the 0-60's and the noise. The whole things is running well with no issues other than one.

 

The gearbox seems to be bouncing around all over the place. So much so that it has damaged to the tunnel side panel.

 

Jacked the car up today and the rubber mount seems to be ok, but the gearbox is bolted to the rubber and is missing the metal cup.

 

Now, having looked at some posts the general opinion is that the cup does nothing, but from what I can tell my gearbox is jumping up anything up to 2 inches!!

 

Questions is, do I find a cup and mount it properly with that or has anyone used a different mount or made any modifications. The car is a zero with pinto and type 9 box.

The cup does help

Check the rubber, when they get oily they soften and move more

Westfield do an uprated mount which also reduced the movement. http://retweeter.co.uk/magento/index.php/engine-drivetrain-exhaust/type-9-sierra-gearbox-mounting-rubber.html If using the ford one you should use the cup.

Thanks for the links. Do you think a big washer would be enough to replace the cup?

No. Has to be a bell shape.

New mount it is then, cos to buy the cup is more than the whole Westfield mount??

ask steve he uses a lump of wood on his gearbox mount, least he did in france
