Hi Gary, welcome!

It's solely down to personal preference and what plans you have for the car....and also depends on which forum you ask as you will get a different answer.....in this club the majority of cars are CEC.

From the topics I've read in the past on a couple of different forums, generally speaking BEC owners think theirs is the best and CEC think that theirs is the best....and when the two types of owners start arguing their points....it gets pretty passionate because it is just a personal preference that both feel strongly about.

My opinion is that CEC are the better choice as its comfortable to drive, plenty fast enough and reliable.

With a BEC, the engine is considered almost 'disposable' as they don't last that long (in relative terms).....neither do clutches, gearboxes etc....however the outright performance, high revs, lightweight engine is completely mind-blowing (while it last)!!

Gary, skip the bike engine bit mate, nippy setting off but a bugger on motorways, the 3 that stand out to me at the 5k plus market are mk, Gbs zero and at a stretch an sr2 road runner

I've had a bike engined atomic which was bloody quick ! It was also lighter than most bec which helped. I owned it less than a year as it was hard to drive at low speeds it only came to life at illegal speeds almost 60mph in 1st.

In 800miles I lunched 1 clutch and a diff, would only have another for a track car.

Of all the kits I've had (on my4th) the v8 engine was most enjoyable... But of all the cars I like my stylus the most (2.0L zetec )

I looked at lots of cars on e-bay before I actually splashed out on something so one piece of information that I gleaned was that many bec were sold with hardly any miles on them, speaks volumes really. You don't see many of them being used as daily drivers. Not enough low down torque makes slow speed driving hard work. Having said that I wouldn't mind one as an extra car for when the roads are clear of traffic (never around here)
