Searching for car once built G833TVO

Back in 2006 I built a Robin Hood based around a Ford Sierra Sapphire. I built it to the best of my ability and expected it would last for some time. Like many people I used it then needed the money to finance something else. Again like many other people I soon regretted the decision.

I have found via the DVLA web site that the car has been un-taxed and not MoTed since 2011 there could be numerous reasons for this used on track only or parked and forgotten.

I am now in my late 70's and would love to know if its still being tracked or is it abandoned and unloved. If its the former then I am delighted that my build has lasted, if the later then maybe there is an opportunity to revive it.

Many thanks for any feed back

I feel your pain, I just sold my kit in June this year and already, the new owner is not replying to any of my texts when I ask how it's going 😞

I'm afraid if it's not had an MOT for 13 years, it's probably gone to that scrapheap in the sky or stuck in someones garage - I doubt it would have lasted as a track car for this long. This is part of the reason I sold mine - I knew the same thing might happen as I got less interested in fixing it and it would be very depressing. At least this way, I can hope someone else is maybe keeping it going...

I suspect you are correct and it’s either scrapped or in a garage forgotten and broken. It was possible at one time to get previous owner information from the DVLA it wouldn’t in this case get to the car but would give the last person to own and sell it. They may be amenable to suppling the persons details that they sold it to, a long shot I know.

You can, although I'm not sure what they can tell you and it looks like you'll need a 'reasonable explanation' - try this:

The will tell you the square root of bugger all, I tried it for one of my old kits, they hide behind the new GDPR rules, they used to be able to do it but no longer.

It is called data protection. Personally I am glad random people cannot find out who owns a particular car (registration) and where they live. It would be a wonderful tool for car thieves, scammers. Even the Police can get into trouble if they try to find out details of car owners without reasonable cause/need.

But it was never 'random people' you had to & still have to have a valid reason, one of the old acceptable valid reasons was you used to own the car previously, they have now stopped that.

You can ask for details of another vehicle’s registered keeper. You’ll need a ‘reasonable cause’, for example:

  • finding out who was responsible for an accident
  • tracing the registered keeper of an abandoned vehicle
  • tracing the registered keeper of a vehicle parked on private land
  • giving out parking tickets
  • giving out trespass charge notices
  • tracing people responsible for driving off without paying for goods and services
  • tracing people suspected of insurance fraud

This is quite an interesting topic which comes up on various other car related sites regularly. When i sold my kit car in 2005 I purchased what was a relatively, by todays standards, a cheap, if there is such a thing, porsche to fill the void left by my kit.

I contacted the DVLA for details of previous owners, it had had seven, they supplied not only names and addresses but copies of the V5 for each previous owner. which was interesting as I could see not only who had owned it and where they had purchased it and how long they had had it.

I also creted a short proformer and covering letter,, that went with it, to each previous owner they all, but one, replied and one sent me some photos of the the car at SPA.

All I asked for on the form I submitted to DVLA was the names of previous owners and my reason was to build a history file about the car.

I think now your not allowed to contact previos owners and everyone hides behind the Data Protection Act.

I am pleased to say I still have both the car and the owner file

What they should do is offer to contact the current owner and pass your details on, leaving it up to them whether to reply or not.

I'm sure they could come up with a reason to charge an extortionate amount of money for it as well.

I suppose that might be nice, but it serves no purpose to them and the bottom line it is not really what they are paid to, so yes they would want payment and I suspect there would still be data protection issue.

I might add that I found the person who built my car and he would not respond to any of my enquiries/messages. He probably thought that  I had found something wrong with it and didn't want leave himself open to criticism or a load of questions - there isn't anything wrong as far as I know, but I would like to know what the silver button on the dash is supposed to do!

Could be but I was hoping for a faulty ejector seat and that I could fix it when I take the seat out to fit runners.

It can't be for the heated rear screen or central locking or sun roof.

Any other suggestions ;)
