Hi All

I am sure the dash is from an Escort (late model) and the gear lever surround (I remember using the coin slots on an Escort van I used to drive....)

Am i wrong or are those bonnet catches not up to sva standard? ie need covering. And also the steering rack/suspension nuts need covering. I agree with everyone else, you've done a good job.

Barry.

Excellent job the car looks very good.

Like most I like the dash.

As Bazwaz said you will need to cover those bonnet catches for the SVA.

When is your SVA?

I have some bonnet catch covers somewhere, You can have if I can find them.

Send me an e mail if you would like to be added to the EASTHOODS (RHOCAR East Anglia) e mailing list.

there are a few things that maybe a problem at SVA, but i didnt want to upset him,

have we all to add a point and see if we can get them all rectified before the test,

It does look a well built car though,

Okay, hood hoop may fail external projection at the base where mounted on car.

Not picking fault, but it may save a retest fee ;)

yes, I agree, well done that man!

A few more points for SVA.

Nut covers for cycle wing brkts, cover track rod up to track rod end (ie cover the "locking nut") I think you'll have problems with the mirrors, but I'll let others comment on those, and last but not least, and please check BEFORE starting to rip this out, I'm farely confident that your roll over bar isn't made from a large enough dia tube, I think it needs to be 50mm dia, but like I said, confirm it first! Also the seat belt anchorage is no good from the back of the car, it needs to come from behind the seats, similar to how the 2B is.

Phil from Cheshire put a mark 3 through SVA last year, and he slipped a piece of 2" scaffold tube on each "leg" up over the original 1¼" dia tube, then welded a box section across to each other on those for the seat belt mountings to go onto, also welding the 2" tube to the 1¼" and smoothing the lines (joint) with body filler to make it look right.

Thanks guys

All noted and taken account of.

Just to clear up some question marks

Dash is from MK5 escort Gaitor and surround from the same

As for SVA remember we have a mildly different test to conform to as the car was purchsed by me before the "new" sva regs came into force

"Purchase date between sep 1997 and sept 2003"

The seat belts should not be a problem as the current regs state

"In the case of a fixed seat the anchorage point must be within 840mmof the seat reference point(ie where the seat belt crosses the seat proper)".

This is 710 mm on mine

However no harm in fixing all the points so here goes

List of jobs now reads

Refit cycle wings (not square on wheel)

Adjust dash (sits to high on the left by 6mm)

Clean the carpet (Covered in rusty water when heater hose split)

Put tyre on spare wheel

Put spacers on indicators at front (pointing inwards slightly)

Refix trim in boot (between seat belt fixings has come away)

Put nut covers on steering nuts (protrusion hazaard)

Bonnet catches on order from demon tweeks (protrusion hazaard)

Sudy hood hoop via regs (protrusion hazaard)

Roll bar is 45mm hoop as supplied by rhe when kit was bought

(Hope to hell i dont have to make another one!!!!)

As for the wing mirrors i have tested these myself and i can see the required points from the interior and drivers mirror !

I am 6ft 4" tall so if the examiner is small then i may be knackered ^_^

I cant see anywhere that there is a requirement for a passenger wing mirror but i put one there for the look more than anything (cant even see it when i am driving)

The two i can see cover all the points of reference as far as i can tell.

Great input so far

Thanks for welcoming me with such warmth

Now wheres that bloody leadlight

Hi Jay,

Firstly, your car looks very good - Well done!

I just hope mine turns out as good too, but I'm a long way off yet.

I've heard people say though that those little indicators (on the cylcle wings) aren't SVA compliant. Am I right?

You need to fill over the screws with silicon to make them smooth as they fail on the edges of the holes
