My Dad loved his cars and changed them frequently, I have lots of happy memorys of drives in MG's, Viva's, Victors, Populars, Anglia's and various trucks etc.

My mates I rock climbed with as a youth had cars but frequently crashed, I must have been a passenger in at least four or five big offs.

My driving instructor was a traffic cop and taught me to drive safe, I have only had one driving conviction in 30 years (I drive 20,000 miles a year).

This is an interesting thread... some of you have had some really cool cars! :D

My list

TS50 ER

DT125

RM250 [field bike]

Vauxhall Chevette [GLS B) ], 1st car, tweaked FR cam and Twin webber... kept up with XR's at the time, with the benefit of the drive going to the correct wheels! :p

Opel Manta... black...looked the Mutt's Nuts, went ok too

Triumph Spitfire... MkIII... black... we tweaked that too!

Mini 1000... Wifes car... we yes, tweaked that a bit too!

Sylvia Turbo '89 model... really good car.

Peugeot 405 :( ... well we had started a family

BMW 525i Sport, red... superb!

Landrover Discovery 300 TdiS... we were lucky it must have been a monday am car!

MG Midget, MkII... 1966, 1098cc, my current daily driver... not one of those 'never driven in wet' cars! [Rarely put the roof up... rain is only water after all! :p ]

Sierra 2.0GL... donor car.

Robin Hood 2B Plus... under construction!

Landrover Discovery 2 Td5 Pursuit... not had it long, so far so good! [Wife Drives it most! :( ]

When I was a kid [16-19yo], I worked for a local Engineer whilst at college etc. He was known in the area for being pretty bright and as a result I got to work on and drive loads of cool stuff, for example:

Morgan Plus 8, we saw this frequently as the owner did hill climbs... lots of test drives!! :D

Jeffery J4.... 7 type hill climb car.

Ford Escort MkI Pick up, fitted with RS2000 engine!

Capri RS3100!! [His own]

Transit MkI Flat bed..... fitted with RS3100 engine after he had wrapped it!!! good fun!

Catapillar D9 Dozer... Big mother

Various tractors, combines and diggers, old and new, big and small....

Still think that was the best job I ever had

Lots of people seem to have had a huge number of cars. In my 40 years of driving there are not many vehicles I (we) have owned, seem to keep most for about 6-7 years I think the Capri was the shortest and the Dyane for about 10 years. (Have had the Hood for 9 years!) I think this is the lot.

DKR Capella (Scooter, Villiers 197 electric start!)

Norton ES2, (500 single)

Royal Enfield Constellation 700 twin 2 off

1st written off by car (TR4) I got damaged too. Terrific vibration, no brakes but went quite well.

Learnt to drive in HA Viva and CA van (3 speed column change)

Triumph Herald

Elva Courier Mk iv (1800 MGB engine) wish I still had it!

Morris 1100

Mk1 Capri 1300 (worlds worst car?)

Citroen Ami 8

Alfa Sud Ti (wonderful to drive, lovely engine, rusted before your eyes)

Citroen Dyane

Part built an Austin 7 special, (in/out clutch, useless brakes)

Mk 5 Cortina Estate

Honda superdream 250 (comfy but underpowered)

Vauxhall Chevette

Skoda Estelle (Great fun, needed more go!)

Vauxhall Carlton

Robin Hood

Sierra DOHC 2 off

Vauxhall Nova

Vauxhall Vectra

Honda Prelude VTi (wonderful engine, super to drive)

Peter.

My collection seem strange when listed don’t know what it says about me.

Austin 7 Ruby 1934 made 1 serviceable out of 2

VW beetle 1955

VW beetle 1948 lhd twin back window

2nd ww Willis Jeep

2nd ww ford Jeep converted to shooting brake

1930 Alvis 12/50 The most satisfying car to drive when you got it right – Straight cut gears with lever on right in the doorway with very tight gate it also had a clutch brake so 1st gear could be selected at standstill without having to wait for it to wind down which meant once on the move you had to remember to only to depress the pedal half way when double declutching. Oh and to make things interesting the throttle pedal was in between the clutch and brake.

1920’s Austin Nippy

1960 ish Austin J4 van

1962 Sunbeam Rapier

1960 Merc 190

1961 Simca 1000

About 35 VW beetles (stationed in Germany and found a way of buying off the German market and selling to British troops)

At this time I also had a DKW F102 1300cc 3 cylinder 2 stroke several Mercs a Taunus M12 and several others

1971 VW 1600 estate

1965 Renault 4

1972 Vauxhall 2000SL

1972 BMW 2000

1973 VW K70

1973 Saab 99

197? Saab900

1976 Volvo 66 (elastic band) very cheap at auction

1979 Merc 230 TE (123 series)

Malvern Autocraft Triad (mini based 3 wheeler)

1991 Merc 230 TE (124 series)

At present I have an old Golf as my tin top plus the wife’s Civic and of cause the Hood.

Hello Boys

Well Hell

I drove

A Lambretta 125 and a Francis Barnett 225 til I passed my bike test (because my parents said I could have a MOTORBIKE if i passed) Yeah

Then a pre unit Bonnie - reg 239 MY - I pushed it (truly) further than I rode it. Still at school - leathers - and weighed about 8 stone - I couldn't kick it over - didn't matter - we lived on a hill and I coasted down - WOW - at schoold slightly different matter - found tennis courts with about 5 to 6 foot slope so parked the bike there!!! FREEDOM.... THEN in High Wycomeb a multi storey car park... ride the bike to the top and slide (and how I did) to start the F*****g thing.

Passed car test and Austin 1800 - Now called the Land Crab

Kept the Bike Though

Sole the 1800 and bought ....... wait for it

A Cortina 1600E and I loved it (and my self for a while)

Then bought a Mini 850 in an awful blue - painted the bonnet matt black and had a George Harrison poster on the inside roof - truly.

Still had the bike though

Huffed and puffed to start it or asked a "nice man" ha ha ha

sold the Mini 850 and bought a Cooper 997 - wheels and all and an 8 track stereo. For the older members here. I used tochange the earth polarity regularly - the radio was a valve one under the back seat and the 8 track was positive - someone told me all yo needed to do was reverse the dynamo wires -that's all I did and it worked fine ... I remember so many good sounds in those days.

OK back to the cars.

Then I sold the 1600e (my Dad was really fed up with me)

Bought a Vitesse 2000 (softtop)

Worken in aviation engineering during the fuel strike in early 70's and ran it on 100L fuel - that thing flew

Then I think I grew up, sold the Vitesse, bought another Cooper, Sold it, Grew up again and bought a Cortina 2000e - if I thought the Vitesse was quick or the bike - this thing was a real flier - the bloke who owned it before me had modified all sorts of things but I have no idea what - at the time Danny (Later husband) had a Jaguar XJ6 with a 4.2 engine but he and I were level from High Wycombe to Amersham on many a late night and a frosty morning - I am not sure who had the edge in terms of mechanicals but I always seemed to be in front!! Even the snow didn't stop that Cortina.

Then mistake I bought a brand new Mini 1275 GT with Denovo wheels and a Webasto sunroof. NOT A LOT OF FUN.

A Renault 5GTL and a brand new baby - Karen Daneille Maguire born 23rd of March 1982 - but to keep me in the swing of things I had a Mini Moke Kit Car that Danny built before we met - a GP YAK with a Cooper 998 motor and (wait for it) we had disc brakes on the front) I drove that kittie with the brand new baby in the back in a carry cot further than I care to remember!! And carried my mother from time to time and shopped often (MAD)

Off went the Renault 5 and in came respectability - I became a Volvo driver - too many of the things to list--- estates my favourite.... Danny used to wring his hands at many of my buys - truly I bought so many for silly money that I laughed at the ordinary motorist...

Onto the Audi's --- 100 Avant - lovely car - then a bargain for £150.00 which needed a donor steering rack (no problem)

Still driving that F*****g Audi and doing 120 miles a day to and from work and Claire at school in Thame Oxfordshire¬¬¬¬¬¬

Then real money here - we both got fed up with what Danny called "my old junkers" bought a nice Shogun diesel and kept quiet for a bit

Sadly the pull for buying was there though and I had to buy a little peugeot 205 in 2002 as I thought Claire (younger daughter) would like it.

Sold the Shogun, bought a Jeep Cherokee, and a Sierra 2.0 for the engine, sold the Sierra 2.0 (too good to scrap and made a profit) bought a Sierra 4x4 (lovely car) some useless idiot stole it from outside my friends house on January 28 2005 and I am still dealing with the insurance claim - - -

Bought a nice little "old ladies" car - Peugeot 306D - fitted a nice CD player and got used to being "NORMAL"

Got hit - very hard on the left hand side on the M40 by a Polish lorry - no speeeeeeka theeeee ennnnnngggggllllliiiish says the driver. Car written off and so that story goes.

BUT I forgot to mention the love of mylife... Mr Blue Sky at the front (ELO) and Chasin' Blue Sky at the back (Queensryche) Comfortable Kit Car... Nice seats, CD player, Cigarette lighter, hands free lipstick mirror, over the bumps at Sainsburys to use the cash machine -no problem, pouch for old rock CD's - no front numberplate cos it overheats with it on - YEAH I have the lot - but it is the best car I have ever driven. SMILE. All the time

Wait for Dan to write about his old cars - I have missed out loads cos I am ashamed of some of the old *bleep* I owned.

I rest my case (as they say)

COME ON DAN - YOU ARE NOW A MEMBER ??????
