  1. Hi Nikki, welcome. Good to see another member in the midlands. I've been rebuilding my series 3A for some time and hope to have it on the road spring/summer (this year??). You will get plenty of advice if you have any problems.

  2. I've always used 2 pack floor paint ( the type with hardener), a friend of mine uses the standard floor paint which isn't as hard wearing but he just overcoats it when it's worn. Can't remember the name, it may be Manders as that was what we used at work. Make sure the floor has a a damp proof course under it as the paint may lift. I also primed my floors with a concrete sealer first. Watch the tyres, they can stick to the paint when the paints fresh!

  3. Great! You will find all sorts of bits to make now! I have had mine years and wouldn't be without it even though it has it's size limitations. I even do small milling jobs on it using a vertical vice.

  4. Caerbont who are supplying my 3 wire sensor got Smiths telemetrix gauges have the instructions on their website. The guy there said the sensor head needs to be about 1mm from the flats on the bolts and light will flash when it senses the heads, also the 4 pulses per rev should be enough for speedo accuracy.

  5. In reply, my chassis was cracked at the top welds where the sides meet the front cross member ( put a torch on the othe side of the welds and it shone through). Also cracking near the engine mounting towers and at the rear of the engine support trays. All the cracks have been reinforced and weld repaired professionally. I have reinforced the front suspension lower mountings as this is a weak spot and also rebuilt the bracketry that holds the top mounts of the rear coilovers.

  6. Had mine powder coated graphite grey metallic by Redditch Shotblasting. some of the powder coasters have a shiny aluminium finish or a chrome look powder but I believe they have to clear powder coat over it to protect it from UV. It's not north Norfolk but Maldon shotblast and powder coating in Essex did an excellent job of a motorcycle frame for me, I think they offer a collection and delivery service.

  7. Hi, I have a 3A with pinto. It uses standards Sierra arms (mine are steel castings). The engine mount towers are welded to 2 channel sections which run from the front to the back of the engine bay. I believe when you first build the kit you can move these to get the right width for the engine, they are then fixed in place. Yours may be set to take the v6?

  8. Dan, you can get hydrogen embrittlement with chroming. "My" plater does some parts for Westfield and these parts are put in an oven for a certain time to reduce the problem. He did this with all of my safety critical parts on my bike. Have you looked at the chrome look powder coating?

  9. You could do what I did on my custom bike. As previous people have said, make sure you buy the correct fuel pipe but then overbraid it yourself. Use the smart ends to cover the braid. You can pick up the overbraid off ebay

  10. Looked at isspro and they will make one with the correct resistance curve that I need but I have decided to bite the bullet and buy the matching telemetrix sender make an adapter plate for it and drill the tank for a new fuel take off pipe. MORE WORK!

  11. The tank's off and the sender is out. The values I'm getting are 20 ohm full, 260 empty and 65 ohms 1/2 full.

Options are: buy the matching smiths sender and make an adaptor plate for it plus drill the tank and fix a new fuel take off pipe.

Or, buy a mismatcher and use the original sender.

Or buy a new sierra sender from gbs which will fit the original fixings and provide an integral fuel pipe and hope it's the later version giving nearly the correct resistance values. If this option did not work then buy a mismatcher unit to get it to work.
