  1. A good day today at Doddington Hall. The weather was fine although the wind was pretty brutal. I forgot to organise that Turnout was good, I reckon about 200 cars in total. And they varied from the usual run of the mill up to a few American muscle cars, a couple of Ferraris and even a Mclaren. And a very good turn out of Hoods of course. Seven of use all lined up. The organiser is hoping this will become a monthly event during the summer, 1st Saturday of every month. It remains to be seen what happens when the initial rush of enthusiasm wears off, but still well worth another visit. Thanks to all who came and supported it,
  2. Just a reminder for everyone. The next Lincolnshire meet is on next Saturday (7th Mar) at Doddington Hall, Lincoln (LN6 4RU) ('Horsepower at the Hall') from 09:00-12:00. And I guess we will probably go to the Woodcocks pub (LN1 2BE) afterwards After a slight hiccup in February it also looks as though I am recovering my almost unbroken record of good weather. Fingers crossed. This is shaping up to be a huge event, the Facebook page reckons there will be 350 visitors, with the majority bringing a car. As such Richard and I are going to aim to get there close to opening time so we can get a decent pitch. And so we can arrive in convoy we will rendezvous at the Damons Motel Car Park (LN6 3SE, Junction of A46 & B1190) at 09:00. If anyone cares to join us please let me know so we can hang on a few minutes if you get stuck in traffic. Otherwise see you there, Cheers Al

    In A Spin

I lasted about 2 months. Then half way around a corner I accelerated sharply tried to get her to drift a bit. Result - she departed straight into the hedge Damage limited to number plate, offside mudguard and my pride. However, as iank said, I think you have to have that first crash/spin to get it out of your system, then you know there are limits and drive with much more care afterwards. You just have to hope you escape relatively unscathed as many of us seem to have done.
  4. I had intermittent indicator failure for weeks, until I realised the flasher unit was directly beneath the mearside wiper hole in the scuttle. Wrapped it in a poly bag. Problems carried on until I realised that I was getting condensation inside the bag. So finally, just moved it and problem solved. Probably should have done that first time.
  5. Phil: How about New Lodge Farm ? (http://www.newlodgefarm.com/) We know it well from the Stilton Cheese run and location is good. Not the cheapest around (£20/caravan £15/tent) but it has all the facilities we would need. I guess we wouldn't have the place to ourselves but it was a huge site and maybe they would be open to us blocking off a corner
  6. Could it be adapted to cure the fuel gauge reading backwards ?
  7. I think most of us have already seen these videos as well.
  8. OK, thanks everyone, that's given me plenty to go on.
  9. I've been using a cordless B&D drill for years, but am getting sick of the battery going flat at a crucial moment, the drill slipping in the keyless chuck when drilling holes in stainless steel and the lack of speed control. So time to upgrade !! Tried to do some comparisons on Amazon but there are just too many and a lack of specific detail. What I am after is: Multi-Speed Corded Keyed Chuck (Can you retrofit a keyed chuck to a keyless chuck drill?) Hammer ? Small as possible to get into awkward places. Anyone any recommendations ? Cheers Al
  10. "Horsepower at the Hall" car meet
  11. As hinted at in the February post, the next Lincolnshire meeting will be on Saturday 7th March 'oop North' at a new venue, Doddington Hall, near Lincoln. A new car show is starting there so we felt we should help it kick off. As usual please indicate attendance and I will up date this post. So far it's: Me Richard (Richard7) Ian (barney7) Nigel & Helen (niduncan) Mick (mowerman) Andrew (Ozz) It's very close to Richard so I am delegating the detailed organising to him , so he will provide further details. Cheers Al
  12. +1 Looks lovely, the titanium version I guess. I think I saw it at Stoneleigh last year and the owner was talking of selling it. I have a list of over 40 SuperSpec owners who are on the forum, about 15 of whom are current RHOCaR members, so there is plenty of knowledge here about the unique features of the Superspec if you need advice. And my blog (in the signature block) covers my experiences with mine over the last 18 months. Might be a useful read for you.
  13. And the "End of Season Kit Car Bash"
  14. Lunchtime Pub Meet
  15. Doesn't help when your donor engine probably dates from the mid-90s (I think that is when Dicky bought a job lot of Rover 'T' engines), and your age-related plate is 2008
  16. No worries. I lost my 100% success rate with the weather anyway so it would have been a miserable drive for you. My Superspec is now absolutely filthy, and I only had to travel about 6 miles And had to put the top on for the return. Contrary to my previous post saying the next meeting would be on 8th March, Richard has found a new car show close to Lincoln being held on Saturday 7th, so we might go there. More details to follow.
  17. Just the 5 of us then. Definitely don't need to book a table
  18. And just as a reminder, it's tomorrow (Saturday) rather than our usual Sunday so ozz could come
  19. Last call for the Lincolnshire meeting. So far only 6 takers so unless I get a flood of late orders I won't bother booking a table, we can stick 2 together when we get there.
  20. I recall at a couple of shows/meetings/run outs last year someone (Matthew (maw) was it you ?) had his brake lights flashing during pull away. I have just experienced a similar problem, but luckily I was in my garage with the door shut (trying to fix my failed reversing lights) and saw it happening and quickly realised it was the act of depressing the clutch that caused the brake lights to illuminate. The reason was obvious, there was enough friction in the top bolt of the pedal box to slightly rotate the brake pedal when the clutch pedal was depressed. A quick blast of WD40 and a minor adjustment of the brake switch cured the problem. So that might have been the reason and, of course, you would never know it was happening unless a bunch of Hoodies are watching you depart and posted it on here
  21. Same as Ian & Tazzman. Full assembly details are at http://the-superspec-journey.blogspot.co.uk/2013/10/one-of-major-projects-was-to-improve.html
  22. Hi all The February meeting for the Lincolnshire (and surrounding area) Chapter will be a 'Southerly' one this time, held at 12:00 on Saturday 14th February, I was going to be selfish and suggest my local pub (35 second drive for me in second gear), but their prices are a bit steep. So I am suggesting the Fox & Hounds at Old Somerby (NG33 4AB) which is a nice 'eatery' pub, reasonable prices, has a large car park and is a bit closer for those of you coming from 'Oop North'. So far I have a yes from Me + Ruth Nigel (niduncan) + Helen Richard (richard7) Please let me know any other attendees either here or by PM so I can see if we need to book a table. I will update this list as they arrive. Cheers Al P.S. Pencil in Sunday 8th March for the next meeting as I am off on a prolonged holiday again on the 12th
  23. I wonder if all Superspecs are like that ? Would explain a lot Any volunteers ?
  24. I think all Superspecs might be like that, mine certainly is, that was the design. But what I meant was how did you figure out the water pump was running backwards ? I want to check mine isn't doing the same.
