    Cooling System

    Makes sense - thanks...

    Cooling System

OK, only just getting near to doing the cooling system - basic question; do I have to use any metal tubes? Can you not do the whole system in silicone tubes?

    We Buy Any Car

Surely you could strip it and sell the parts for 10x that amount? A quick check on eBay has: £50 for pair of lights (front or rear) £50 for front/rear seats (£100 if they're leather) £25 for front/rear bumper £20 for front grille £10 - £20 for various bits of interior trim (chrome strips, ashtray console, door handles etc) £5 for air vent covers!

    Surrey Meet?

    Darn, that's a shame - thanks.

    Surrey Meet?

Just wondering if this still happens every 2nd Sunday at the Shy Horse?

    Warning Lights

Does anyone know which warning lights you MUST have for IVA? There's a section in the manual listing all the possibilities but it doesn't say which ones they will check for. I can see that each section says if it needs one but I don't want to miss any, which would be my luck.

    Top Of The Pops 1978

Yeah, they were so good I sometimes even turned the sound on
  8. Spoke to Tiger this morning and this is normal. They recommend making up a blanking plate to stop crud getting in but they say they haven't had anyone take out their gearbox yet. I might make a skid plate as well...
  9. Not only that but also I'll get loads of road crud potentially flying up into the bell housing, no?
  10. Has anyone else got this combination? I've just fitted mine and I'm a little concerned as the sump is so shallow that the flywheel is 5-10mm lower than the sump: http://goo.gl/photos/CRCfSa1PUejPWBo98 Anyone had this and just left it or done anything about it?

No problems - the thought was there...

    Radiator

Damn, that's good of you - sending PM.

    Radiator

The GBS radiator is priced at £120 or so but a similar sized one here: http://www.adrad.co.uk/prices/prices.php?id=VW302&model=KIT%20CAR&make=KIT%20CAR ...is only £26. I know I shouldn't just go by money but that's a tempting saving. Any opinions on why I shouldn't?

    Seats

You do :-) I use the eBay app, not the website, so I don't have the Url easily to hand to post the link, otherwise I would, honest. Thanks for doing that... Dave, they are 51cm across the base and I have 48cm between tunnel and side. But the guy reckons the measurement is pessimistic (he would though) and also the sides have padding which should give a bit, so hopefully they'll squeeze in.

    Seats

Thanks all. I've ordered some from Bad Boy Classics in Hemel. Item number 171829064993 on ebay, if you're interested. £225 for 2 seats and runners is worryingly cheap but not too far to go to return them if necessary.

    Seats

Carbuildersolutions don't do seats, do they? None on their website... Intatrim too expensive and Caterham will be as well, I bet. I assume they'll have a limited range of own-brand stuff? This is the downside of our Internet shopping world - fewer places to see before you buy.

    Seats

Does anyone know somewhere down South that has a shop with a range of seats I can try out? The only place I can find so far is Nottingham which is a bit far (but I'll go if necessary).
  18. Thanks - weirdly, that sign came from a market stall in Bruges, of all places. Tin as well and just 10 euros.
  19. Started in July.... http://zerokitcarbuild.blogspot.co.uk
  20. Hmm, they're only 30 minutes from me. Problem is, the manifold is only plastic (air inlet on a Zetec) and I've contacted a similar firm who weren't interested (well, they never replied to my email). I'll give them a go... Would prefer to do it myself but my history with straight filing is not good and I don't want to get this wrong, otherwise I'll have air gaps round the Plenum. I've got some instant gasket - will that do as well for hiding any imperfections?
  21. I need to get my air inlet manifold sanded down, after having hacked off the main bit. https://goo.gl/photos/Ev6tVHxmgjU1xBC59 Does anyone know a small firm or something in Surrey/Kent/Sussex who might do this cheaply? I can send it off to GBS but it will end up costing £40 with postage and I haven't quite got the courage to do it myself with just a single file available to me.

    Header Tank

    Yup, sounds like it...

    Header Tank

Hmm, I sense a flaw in my plan - I want to use the OEM thermostat which doesn't have a filler cap obviously. I guess I'd have to use the filler cap on the radiator but does the GBS rad have a cap? And the rad is not vertical is it? Can you use a rad with a filler cap if it isn't fitted vertically? Also, I can't find an expansion tank like the GBS one - they're all the standard header type. I guess I could use one of those if the pipe from the stat goes in at the bottom and the real overflow from the top pipe?

    Header Tank

But isn't a suck/blow system more likely to introduce airlocks?

    Header Tank

I need a coolant header tank for a 2004 (?) 2 litre Zetec - any suggestions about what to get? Is it an advantage to be as big as possible or is size not important? Shape significant - flat, round, deep?
