  1. hopefully that all made sense!!
  2. I had this problem, the rack is a LHD metro rack, turned upside down. the kit comes supplied with metro track rod ends and as the taper on the TREs is different to that in the sierra stub axle, you never completely get rid of the play. I tried a few different things, none of which I was totally happy with, and in the end I changed the sliding pillars to wishbones which helped sort the problem - see below. what I wanted to do was machine an adapter to go from m12X1.25 (metro steering rack thread) to sierra TRE thread which is M14X2. unfortunately there isn't the space between end of the rack and end of the TRE for the adapter to be strong enough. converting to wishbones has moved the front wheels outwards by 40/50mm so I have space for a decent length thread adapter, which im happy with I can get pictures of it all for you if you'd like, but im afraid I cant help more than that! I did spend ages looking on the internet to see if there was an off the shelf track rod end with a female m12X1.25 end and the same taper as the sierra upright. and I couldn't find anything
  3. just had a look now... I think ive already given it away. sorry
  4. Hi all, I originally bought this as a car to put me on until i got my vx220 repaired and back on the road, it's done me proud in the 10 months I've had it. I've changed to a sportka now, so there's no need for it. 2005 54 plate 39k miles (will go up slightly) No rust around the filler cap Two new front tyres - rears have plenty left Was serviced about 6k ago, can be redone before sale if you'd like Full service history (not all Ford though) Tax until end of August 2013 MOT until end of December 2013 Not cat registered only bad bits are that there's a bit of bubbling around the rear wiper, the paint hasnt broken yet though, theres a 5mmX25mm scratch on the passenger door, it's been touched up so it's not too bad and the front hubcaps are a bit scuffed. it's on ebay with a starting bid of £1100, so to rhocar members £1100 and it's yours. Logbook is away with the DVLA at the moment, having the private reg transferred. I have a photocopy of the logbook so you know everythings in order, and the new logbook should be back in a week or so. It's on ebay at the moment, but would rather let it go to someone on here as it's a good, cheap, reliable little motor.
  5. I may have one, i'll check today
  6. there's pigotts in strensall - very overpriced there's also u-pull-it in full sutton - which is pretty good. loads of cars, fairly cheap and they're not stacked on top of each other there's one (or used to be one) out in melbourne, wasnt brilliant though
  7. they are indeed standard ford units, good idea trying ford although i fear they may be expensive, they have suprised me in the past though. i'll see what ebay and likes turn up, if not ford it is. i bought these ones: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=261002521649&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:GB:1123 when i bought the stub axles i think the bloke said they were off a 1.6 i always thought the bearings were all the same for RWD sierras, only the 4X4 and cossie ones were different? so maybe its the listing that's wrong thanks, steve
  8. just thought i'd add: i got these supplied with no bearings, so i cant measure the old ones i'll need a left and right hand set apologies for the colour of them
  9. hi all currently gathering parts so i can convert my 2b to wishbones. i've got all the wishbones, bushes, brackets, shocks and stub axles. trying to find some wheel bearings that are suitable for my stub axles but the ones i ordered off ebay are the wrong ones. dont really want to make the same mistake again so thought i'd stick a post up i've measued using vernier the various diameters - see pictures below can anyone point me in the direction of which kit i need? thanks, steve
  10. awesome, pleased you've got it all fitted and running. fingers crossed there's not too many teething issues! ordered all the parts i need for the engine rebuild today, wallet is significantly lighter, but should keep me quiet for a while
  11. I have fireblade carbs on my pinto too Top two pipes are vents so leave then to atmosphere. Bottom ones need joining with a t piece and they're the fuel feed, should be 8mm if I remember right Fuel pressure should be set at 2.5psi I used a bicycle gear cable and a 90 degree noodle, works very well!
  12. i dont have one for sale, but might help with your search if you specify what width your current diff is and what ratio you want cheers, steve
  13. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330875234105&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:GB:1123 nothing to do with me
  14. hi steve thanks for keeping this updated, im sure will be a big help for me later down the line. will be interested to hear if the clutch is up to it! what sort of bhp and torque are you after from it? no updates from me on it. still got the z20let and a t5 gearbox sitting in the garage not doing much. bellhousing and clutch will be getting ordered come payday. think i'm going to go for a helix 6 paddle jobby. a massive overkill i'm sure, but i know i'll get greedy with the power further down the line so i'm doing my best to future proof it! thanks, steve
  15. also, are you still using the standard sump? and if so whats ground clearance like? thanks again, steve
  16. looks really neat steve, thanks for putting pictures up. good to see that the original inlet manifold fits ok whats gearbox are you using? a type 9 might not last too long with the torque a z20let is capable of picked up a t5 gearbox for mine yesterday, off to yukspeed on Friday to buy the remaining parts so hopefully I may be in a similar position to you soon! keep up the good work!
  17. it seems like a fairly hard part to get hold of.... so before i buy a complete hub i thought i'd stick a wanted ad up on the sierra front hubs there is a splined washer that fits onto the hub itself. might be able to get a picture if it helps. i bought a set of hubs off ebay last year but they were missing. so i'm after two if anyone has any kicking around? thanks, steve
  18. i'd have said the pinto and the bike carbs were a bloody bargain!
  19. hi steve, not sure i fancy being the guinea pig on that. just wanted to make sure i wasnt missing something obvious before i put the ecu on ebay! thanks again, steve
  20. well i ended up buying that engine yesterday, seemed like a good buy so just went for it! kerry/steve what ecu did you guys use? i've got the original ecu, transponder and keys from the stra gsi it was removed from... i dont suppose it would be possible to re-use it would it? i assume not but worth asking! thanks, steve
  21. hi all changing engines soon so these parts will be up for grabs. m45 eaton supercharger plus brackets for a pinto big front mounted intercooler silicone pipework a plenty twin piston dump valve nissan gti-r inlet plenum with basplate to suit fireblade carbs inlet spacer with vac take-offs pilot tube the build thread is here http://www.rhocar.org/index.php?showtopic=33390&hl= supercharged pinto&st=0 here is ian jenns build thread which covers it too http://www.rhocar.org/index.php?showtopic=31098 now, this isnt a bolt on and forget kit, if you plan on using it with bike carbs then there is some work to do. i lost interest because my engine would've needed making lower compression to cope with it. a totally standard pinto on bike carbs or fuel injection should be fine with it. only other thing that could do with improving on is changing the pulley type on the supercharger from a single v-belt to a poly-v. i think i was getting some belt slip when i had it fitted. this ISNT a comprehensive kit, but its a bloody good start. there will still be a fair bit of work and fettling involved to get it working properly if theres interest i'll get some proper pictures of individual parts for the buyer also, i have some cossie pistons and rods up for grabs on ebay, if anyone wants them pm me http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/beef_curtains/m.html?item=251207641200&ssPageName=STRK%3AMESELX%3AIT&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562 £250 for the supercharge parts, if its not gone soon it'll go on ebay can post but cant see it being cheap!
  22. well, i'm off to go see a z20let in the morning... everything is included, turbo, manifolds, starter, flywheel, wiring, ecu and so on. will report back with any progress!
  23. another question... is it possible to keep the cable operated clutch? dont fancy having to change the pedal box too (more expense) thanks, steve edit: answered my own question http://www.sbdev.co.uk/Clutches/Clutch_Release_Mechanisms/Clutch_Release_Mechanisms.htm
  24. many thanks chaps, im sure i will be in touch with you guys a lot more in the coming months! kerry, is there any chance you could give more details on the bellhousing, flywheel and clutch set-up you have? part numbers, drawings, dimensions etc Thanks, steve wishbones are in the footwell all nicely powder coated just waiting to get them fitted - this will be the first job before fitting a new engine. but yes your are right, sliding pillar is ok, but thats it. i wouldnt want to run any more power than i have while on pillars. camber shims have been fitted too, with some nice wide tyres on the back
