  1. Hi, my car is of monocoque construction so the floor is just flat mild steel. I have some new seats (thanks to SteveT). Each seat has four attachments under them: two studs at the back and two brackety leg things at the front. So I need some sort of cross member / spreader plate, very large washer etc under the attachment points? Or do I? I don't need seat runners as I'm happy for them to be fixed and not adjustable. Could other members please share how they have fixed their seats with similar attachments, or how they would do so? Cheers.

  2. How have folk stopped the wiring vibrating, flapping about, poking out from under the dash board?

During the summer I weeded out some of the surplus wiring and connectors and ended up with a half carrier bag weighing 1.5kg! There is still a lot of it hanging down from under the dash board. My dash board is basically a sheet of mild steel, unshaped, welded in place. I did use some self adhesive hooks on the reverse side of the dash-board to hold some of the wiring out of sight and out of harms way. Does anyone have some method of tidying this area up more? Thanks.

  3. Sealed for life units are now standard the most common units on propshaft so.

Even on hard working massive powered commercials.

I shall go and do my lines and write a thousand times: "It is not a series II Landrover. It is not a series II Landrover. It is not a series II Landrover. It is not a series II Landrover..............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

(It was my dads Landrover which was the first car I did any bit of looking after on.) :good:

  4. Maybe consider some sort of containment in case the thing should break considering the extra power. Thinking safety here. And perhaps a hatch to get to the grease nipples before the whole thing gets hidden down the transmission tunnel - the universal joint towards the front of my car is very hard to get to.

  5. My door I mean side-screen (yes I have but one) gains its structure from a perspex window mounted, towards the front of the vehicle, into a folded stainless steel bracket which has the hinges attached and locates into the windscreen frame. This window has been bent using heat to complement the angle between the bulkhead and the arm-rest where you get in and out of the car. Below the window is a 'flap' for want of a better word. This is made of spongy sheet (neoprene ?) sandwiched within vinyl. This completes the side screen and is fastened to the chassis from the inside with straps to keep it closed while you drive.

The whole thing is quite light. Another advantage is that when you have taken it off, the 'flap' will fold up against the perspex and makes storage easy, as the whole thing then becomes half the hight compared to when its fitted. I think this is not featured in the factory ones as they don’t fold - correct me if I’m wrong there. When folded it is easily stored in the 'boot' - again I look for a better word but boot will do do for now. I like this design and when I come to make the other side-screen I shall copy the existing one. Maybe I'll look for a better window material which does not scratch as easily. Polycarbonate might be better.

I can send a photo if you like.

I hope this is clear and helps.

  6. I heard on the radio the chief guy of the organisation that preserves / maintains the plane. He said that the reason for discontinuing it is that the expertise to maintain it has gone from the companies that they used. Just thought I'd chip in with that. I'd always assumed a jet engine was a jet engine and hydraulics etc where just that but I don't know anything about maintaining a plane and he made me realise there must be many tricky bits and pieces inside waiting to go wrong. So I'm more awe-struck by them than before.

  7. Yes, whose insurance would be paying up? That's another good point. I don't have a problem with my insurance paying - supposing it's someone else's fault - but in your case it shouldn't be you left with the black mark and increased premiums because you're the one who bothered with insurance. This is my understanding of how it operates which is not right.

  8. I'm very glad everyone is okay, with valuable lessons learned and shared. Personally I have no issue with horses or the riders or drivers of horses. As the good book (Road Craft) says: dont go so fast that you cant stop within the distance you can see to be clear. We can all get on using a bit of discipline (if we have been educated, another story). It's a crying shame the level of horsemanship is so low at least around where I live: riding on the pavements, slouching, loose reins, chatting, texting on horseback. These are habits which make the above comments of 'keep them in fields' seem almost reasonable. Horse riders are letting their side down at least around where I live (some, not all).

  9. From memory (because i looked into this some years ago, not having a tv myself) , doesn't the wording go something like 'capacity to decode live broadcasts'? So if you have a TV which has the circuitry to decode a signal you might not be totally legal even if you don't use it for watching live TV. Don't take my word for it because it's a distant memory now from when I bought an analogue-only card for my computer so i can watch video cassettes. This might be something you want to look into more if you want to be on the right side of the law with a TV you don't use as such.

  10. I haven't had a license for 13 years, I refuse to pay to watch the drivel, TV licensing have been round once and I've been at this address 7 years, I bought a 42" TV a few years ago as my son was coming to stay and had nothing to play his X Box on, I don't watch live TV, just DVD's and downloaded films, (TV connected as second monitor to Laptop), haven't had a letter for a while, but yes, they can be strongly worded especially as I've never watched live TV at this address therefore I don't need a license.
