I think the ford 2.9 boa or bob with the quad cams will not fit. The heads are just too big. The easiest route is a 2.8 v6 Capri or Xr4i - pretty identical using the ford V6 with the longer input shaft from an xr4i give a engine and box combo straight from a donor that will drop in. With mechanical fuel injection ( or you can carb it) there are no ecu issues. Just swirlpot and exhaust costs. The lump is a heavy lump but keeps the nose down at speed. It will never win any trackdays but is torquey enough 1100 rpm in 5th is easy and fits. They are cheap to come across ( unless you get it rebuilt) and new set of pistons) shells, rebore conversion to unleaded new oil pumps etc will be over a grand - Just food for thought. They do sound a tad on the loud side though

All, Landlord is just in the process of cutting the grass for us so will be all nice a trimmed. There are no plans for Fri night. Most people eat in the pub and drink beer. I shall be there and eating about 7.30 onwards. That's enough of a plan for me. Sat morning run out is planned with handouts and postcodes.... Away from Smallways Country Inn for 10.30 please. Full tanks if possible.... Should be back for around 4 - 6 pm depending on how much stopping and walking about we do . Anyone that has not advised they are coming, but could fit in a free camping weekend or even just a run out around the Yorkshire Dales on Saturday just turn up. Everybody welcome. So see you on Friday night or Saturday. I have tried to book the weather but cant get through on the helpline number, so will have to take pot luck.. All the best - Lee

Hi Simon. Iw oudl post some pictures on here of the engine and box. The Capri 3.0 Essex and I assume you will have a rebored one of these (the RS3100 engine used by ford is as rare as hens teeth) would originally been mated to a 4 speed box. I stand to be corrected but I dont think the Essex engined Capris were ever fitted with a 5 speed. The Later Colgne engines Capries/ Granada's etc were fitted with a V6 "version" of the Type 9. ( Note also fitted to Mk 1 Sierra XR4i). So it has probably been modified previously, It is Essex if 3 to 1 manifolds ( Unless spomeone has installed US 3 branch heads on a cologne block but unusual). Personally I would not shorten the prop - False economy, By all means cut one down to get teh right length and then take it to a prop manufacturer and get one made with greasable UJ's either end. Mine was £115 but that is about 4 years ago. A welded prop spinning at speed next to my left leg would concern me. Well it would with my welding........ Just my view. You could be a master welder for all I know . I will be at Newark. Pm me if you want phone number.
