Adrian Flux Insurance

I have been sitting on this for a couple of days now to calm down before sharing my experience with you all. My original posting would have been full of expletives and deleted straight away.

However here goes:

The week I took the car for the IVA re-test I arranged insurance with the above, at a cost of a couple of hundred quid fully comp. This was done on the chassis number as I hadn't registered the car yet. Within all of the paperwork sent and completed was an agreed valuation form which required photo's of the car to be submitted by post. These included side on (both), front, rear, engine bay and cockpit.

I requested that the car be valued at £9000 which I think would be a fair price to replace the car to the same spec and quality.

This application cost me £10.00.

I then received an e mail stating that they could not value the car until they had a photo with the number plates on. So having fitted the number plates I sent a further photo.

On Monday I received a letter stating, I quote:

Having duly received the agreed value application paperwork from yourself and completed the relevant research, we can confirm the policy has been issued at a valuation of £5000.00

It went on to say that if I didn't find this acceptable I could get an independent engineers evaluation, submit this and they would contact me.

Strangley enough I didn't find this acceptable a rang the office to find out why it was only valued at £5000. The member of staff that I spoke to bore the brunt of my dissatisfaction i'm afraid, and I basically told them that they didn't know what they are talking about.

I found out from this person that their valuation was based on an internet search, that showed the base kit to be £2500 and a donor vehicle would only be £500 at the most.

I went on to say that if they could supply Zero's at this price I would like ten.

I then demanded my £10.00 valuation fee returned as I did not agree with their decision only to be told, there was no way as the person had done the research.

I'm afraid I hung up at this stage as I was shaking with rage and didn't want to resort to swearing at the person.

Monday night I sent a snotto gram too which I have not and don't expect a reply.

So the moral is don't bother paying the £10.00 valuation fee as you won't have any say anyway.

Someone said they thought they were merchant bankers, I thought they were supposed to be specialist who "Knew their stuff".

Now I agree with him.

I don't know what the others do, but Flux will only agree value for 2 years, at which time you have to go through the process of re-submitting photos and establishing value again. They also tried to double my premium after the first year, but after an argument dropped it down to match a quote from Pickles, still with my original insurance company though! Total lack of integrity if you ask me. This year I expect to move to Pickles.

I had exactly the same experience Dean, so it must be common practice. Even the figures are the same.

I just accepted it at the time because their policy was still cheaper than anyone else's, and because I'm lazy, but you're right, it is daft. I'd happily pay a little extra on the policy to know I'm insured to the true value of what it would cost to replace the car to the exact same spec, rather than what they 'think' it would cost.

The customer service at Frank Pickles is superb. I paid about £120 fully comp with initial chassis number and had a long wait until DVLA sorted themselves out but FP were fine.

It was a nice experience dealing with them and unless that changes, I wont move from them in the future even if their prices go up a bit.

Sorry to hear about your troubles with Flux but chat to FP and see what they can do.

I am pretty sure I could write a book on the horror stories I have heard about Adrian Flux and that doesnt include my dealings with them directly where they illegally set up a second direct debit from my bank account to take 'fees' that I did not owe them. Their spin off Premium Credit are just a nightmare

DONT DO ADRIAN FLUX!!!!

Hi All,

An update on the above:

I have just opened a letter from them which now states, as a result of the additional information supplied we are pleased to offer a revised valuation of £9000.

I can only presume the additional information was the snotto gram I sent. I don't think I could repeat the contents on here but seems to have worked.

My advice would be don't accept what they say.

Most people have more than enough evidence as to the quality and specification of their build in the form of photographs and receipts. I would be more than happy to stand in court arguing with an insurance company if it went that far.

All the best,

Dean

I know alot of people don't like adrian flux but I have never had a problem with them.

They where one of only three companies who would insure my highly modified MGZR to an agreed value and where considerably cheaper too.

I've used them on standard higher powered cars too as many other companies said I was too young (at the time)

I also use them for the hood although I paid very little for the car so have a low agreed value I also get full breakdown which I've used and was very good.

I don't work for them or receive any benefit from saying this, just thought I would put another side to the argument.

Jay.
