Help Need Or Stonleigh Show Will Be A No No!

I know i have posted loads on here and have received a fair amount of help from some very nice people :good:.

I have been given a set of chrome shafts to enable me to put the sliding pillars back together but although greatly appriciated they are aftermarket ones and are not suitable :( . I only need to replace one of them as the other one is ok.

This is a last ditch appeal to anyone who has a chrome shaft (Ford) that i can either purchase/swap or borrow never to be returned lol ( would make an additional donation to hoody bear ). the alternative is to get the broken one drilled and a new stud put in but time is against me hence the appeal.

can travel most places (company car and fuel).

hopefully someone has one lying around and i can get back on the road for stoneleigh and see you all there!

many thanks in anticipation

When I initially built my car with the pillars I had the bottom stud cut off, I thought the 4mm ford bit was unsuitable, and had a 8mm stud fitted by an engineering shop here in Lincoln.

Did it in one day and cost me £15.00 for both.

Look around your local area and i feel sure you will find a small engineering shop local to you.

If not then Lincoln is not a million miles away from your location.

Hi Keith,

I've got two you can have, I don't know how to find out if theyre original Ford or aftermarket ones. Theyre chrome shafts with a 12mm stud at one end (with 6mm hex inset) and an 8mm stud on the other, any idea how I tell if theyre original Ford parts or not ? They came on my part built kit with sliding pillars.

I'm in Leyland, Lancashire, don't know if your in the area at any time, but you can have the pair for nowt.

Cheers

Keith

Think i still have the original ones from the Sapphire strip down as have wishbones and did not need the chrome shaft - should be ford.

North Yorks is a bit of a way off, but pm me if you do not get one closer to home.

One chrome bar should only be around £4.50 postage; lets have some measurements first to see if what we got is what you want.

Keith i am going down to bobs on the 17th april could bring them back with me if you want

Just read this post and I think I might have some shafts spare. As my car is wishbone I'm not 100% familiar with the parts but I'm assuming it's a front strut shaft.

I'll look them out tonight and will post a photo and some sizes for comparison.

Ok, my pair look like this:

For reference the ground diameter is 338mm long and the thread length of the large threaded end is about 48mm. The nut on the smaller threaded end is staked on so I've not disturbed it.

PM sent.

just replied to your pm and then read the post. i think they are the ones i have which do not fit. its the bit at the bottom that looks suspicious. the overall length is the same i believe but the actual chrome shaft is shorter.

total length 410mm

chrome shft length 340mm

top thread 50mm

bottom stub 20mm with about 5 mm thread bot may have been cut
