What's Your Dash Made From?

I've currently got a cut to shape dash made from plywood. However the holes are wrong for my dah layout so need to make a new one. What have you all used? Just wondering if there is a better option before I go down the same route.

made it from 1.5mm ally,not sure if it is better but it was easy to do.

I used 1.5mm carbon fibre bought from Carbon Mods

Hi, i'm just in the process of fitting a fibre glass dash from GBS looks good .

M y orginal dash wash 1/4 ply covered in black vinyl.

I bought fibreglass one with pre rolled edges but it was flimsy to backed it with 4mm ply,then wrapped in carbon vinyl the center section is 12mm mdf

I used GBS fibreglass dashboard with ETB gauges clean looks and easy to work with.

I used 12mm exterior grade MDF (Waterproof). It is easy to work with either a jigsaw or hand tools such as a coping saw, you can glue on an extra thickness on the bottom edge to achieve the correct radius for SVA or IVA which can be quickly achieved by hand filing and sanding . It is strong enough to be self supporting thus dependent on your scuttle arrangement you can make the scuttle removable leaving all instruments and wiring in place . A very acceptable and attractive textured satin finish can be achieved by spraying the unit ( Before fitting the gauges etc. ) with a " Stone Chip Paint " aerosol which is usualy black, however most of those can usualy be over sprayed . Practise on a scrap piece first.

I used ply and covered in leather

been on the road since 2007 and haven't had a problem with it.

I used sign writers plastic, scrounged from a kindly supplier in work. 5mm thick, light as a feather, easily worked. Used the same for boot lid as well, great stuff. HTH, Bri

Has it to pass IVA?

If that to me then yes it has to pass IVA. I used the existing plywood and put thick firm padding on the front and then wrapped around the underside to give a suitably padded radius.

Yes Duck it was to you (you started the topic). I was in a roundabout way making sure you knew about the radius edge as most pic's above were retrospective new dash arrangements. Plywood will be grand if finished well

Original S3 steel dash lower edge with bonded 40mm waste pipe (19mm radius required) covered in yoga mat then grey vynll
