Cologne V6 Runiing Very Rich

map sensor imho. Had exactly the same recently. Do you have any spares?

I've tried my very hardest to test these, but the results are almost always inconclusive. Sometimes just worth trying another and seeing what happens.

Previously I have been through a similar situation where i did not know what was wrong and i tried everything, every sensor and injection component (pinto eec iv), and it turned out to be the alternator. Made ok volts but must have been spiky, which confused it.

Phew. Thought I was missing a vital engine part. Ive swapped the maf's already. Odly enough when I changed the fuel regulator the emissions were worse at 14% but it did start on its own. Now the old one is back on it wont start and when it did the emissions were back to 12%? There I something strange going on for sure. Just ordered 2 more maf's and found out that ford no longer supply spare fuel pressure regulators.

Below is a good guide for fault finding the electrical side of the EEC IV ecu, c/o nw rhocar.

I know this is for a pinto so the wiring pins and such like may be different, check with your haynes manual.

So here is what I have so far.

Engine will not start now feels like its flooded. So I turn fuel pump off and it at least tries to start

Too much fuel - 12% (old FPR) 14% (other FPR) co2

Possible Problems

Sensor:

Water temp

MAF

Air temp

Fuel temp

Mechanical:

Pressure regulator

Air leak

Timing

Electrical:

Alternator

ECU

All 6 cylinders have the same symptoms of carbon fouling on the spark plugs and emissions are exactly the same on both exhausts.

I have tried different maf's although there is always a chance they are all faulty

Tried different FPR but emissions went up and no change

Fault code reader says no faults

Have ordered another 2 Maf's and an aftermarket FPR to try and fit in

Today I have left the battery connected as zerorace mentioned later ecu's have bad memory ( normally I isolate battery)

Later will try and see what happens (if anything)

This is most irritating problem

Anything I may have left off?

eec iv doesn't have 'memory' or learning features are there's no lambda sensor.

No fuel temp sensor.

Personally i'd check each sensor though the wiring to eliminate them first.

Air flow, air temp, water temp, throttle position sensor possibly (I think the tps is only used for fuel cut off on overrun, so an be safely disconnected for testing).

Timing is worth checking. Air leaks usually give lean running and high idle speeds.

Good news everyone. Problem solved!

Turns out that when lengthening my MAF wires I mixed 2 of them up! Stupid me!

However I now own a fault code reader and co2 meter If anyone is in need.

Now if I could just prevent it from getting so hot!

So many thanks for everyone's help, this is by far the best owners club !!

Great news

Most problems can be traced bact to the last thing u

Touched i gave a mate a jump start then found my wipers would not work 3 hours later found that the cable from battery had been damaged puting jump leads on battery
