Rallying Vs Trackdays

Spent the Sunday in Phil price rally school in north wales. I have to say the experience beats trackdays hands down. Rally drivers are a different breed.conclusion at the end of the day is i cannot drive, i did improve through out the day. I could not process pace notes quick enough. And the track was just crazy, any mistake and you came off a cliff. Good job the cars had dual control. Anybody one here does club rallying?

It's the same when I'm grass tracking, we are just about permanently sideways, it's not so bad when you are on your own, but when you have another seven cars on the track with you and you are only inches apart one mistake and you can be very quickly on your roof! And there isn't a lot of protection.

I have driven tracks, Cadwell, Mallory and must confess loose surface stuff is much more exhilarating and difficult to come to terms with.

on loose surface you have to keep the car off balance all the time to allow for cornering quickly were as on tarmac the car needs to be planted.

The last time I drove a quick car on a track I wound up "show boating" every were, slow but so much fun.

I think the young'uns call it drifting nowadays

I've come to the conclusion roundabouts were invented for kit cars, they have recently opened the Carlisle by pass, there's at least 8 roundabouts along its length and it's amazing how many times you miss your turn off and have to go round again!

I spent 15 years doing autocross, rallies, autotests and trials many years ago, I loved every minute of it. I competed in the same events as Roger Clark, Tony Pond, Jimmy Mcrae but now-where near the some class.I like to think that my early experiences helped me become a better driver and would recommend it to any-one.http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e262/Alan_Dawson/img032_zpsa05b873e.jpg

My motorsport with cars started with banger racing...shale tracks with mobile obstacles...21 other cars.

Then I moved on to hot rods on the same type of tracks...& had a great time for several years.

Many years later, I tried a few rally days at Brands in an escort cosworth, thinking I'd manage because of my experience hot rodding.....

but I was hopeless....I didnt manage a single lap without spinning off... :sorry:
