Brake Calliper Powder Coat

If I were to have a new pair powder coated I would leave the pistons and seals in place with a bleed nipple in both fluid tracks to keep the powder out.

 

Then pull pistons, check and clean after coating has taken place.

Thanks that sounds good advice, I have got silicone bungs to stop the powder in the other holes but maybe just use high temp tape in place of the dust cap over the piston . I would think that the seal should be good to survive the 200 deg c as the calliper must get hot in use

I had my motorcycle ones done by Redditch Shotblasting. They needed the the pistons, seals and bleed nipples removed. They then plugged the small holes and high temperature taped the bores. Be carefully if it's a two piece (split) calliper as I have found some have seals at the joint. There were no problems in reusing the pistons and seals, just make sure the powder coating hasn't formed a lip at the cylinder opening which will damage the seal.
