Boiler Woes !

Recommended Posts

Boiler broke down again yesterday. ( wonder what else we'll get for Christmas? ) Fixed to-day -- hooray !!

Pump was replaced & with it was this note. " Please notice ! It is recommended to add lubrication additives into the kerosene. In some geographical areas in UK the lubrication ability of the kerosene is not sufficient & causes the pump to seize,"

Now I always add a measure of oil to the kerosene when filling the tractor, but have never heard of an additive being necessary for an oil burner in central heating.

The oil we buy is 28sec & labelled as suitable for use in Agas.

Any thoughts/wisdom on the above? Thanks.

The kerosene shouldn't be anywhere near the pump,it should be gravity fed to the boiler, the pump circulates the water.

It's a pressure jet boiler -- motor powers pump which pressurizes the fuel which is then sprayed into the combustion chamber -- similar to an injection fed engine; but quieter.

We had other "presents" -- the hot tank sprang a leak & the ball valve in the loft decided a pin-hole in the valve body would be good -- soaked the loft floor & I couldn't find the cause until the domestic water called for a top-up.
