Suspected Whinning Diff

Recommended Posts

Last year whilst building my supper spec on the slowest car build known to man, I gave the car a quick test (on private ground)

The diff was making a horrible whining noise.

I put a topic here on the forum and received a lot of good ideas.

Over Christmas I decided to have a good look at the problem.

Now I feel so stupid and guilty for wasting everyones time.

See photo.

Now sounds so sweet.

Thanks for your help.

Jez

No need to beat yourself up over that.

I'm glad it proved such a quick, easy and cheap fix.

Might have been a different story had you not found it and carried on stripping and rebuilding your full transmission driveline system.

Assumptions will catch everyone out. I have a misfiring daily drive, no compression on cylinder 4. Pull the inlet manifold and you can see all the inlet valves, 1 of the inlet valves on cylinder 4 is covered in crap while all the others are spotless. Pull the head off to find that part of one of the valves on cylinder 4 is missing! Assumption made? New inlet valve is required, obviously, so one new one ordered. On arrival its too big and I'm very confused? Check the head again to find its one of the exhaust valves with a bit missing! Doh!
