I have seen a 2B advertised  but it has a "J" registration. What are the practical difficulties  caused by this?

Will it have to go through the SVA system?

Will it be registered  as recently put on the road  so subjected to emission tests on the MOT?

How will insurance companies treat it?

Any other problems?

Any comments gratefully received. Thanks. Mick.

What does it say on the V5C as to the type of vehicle it is, does it say it's a 2B or a Sierra?

If it is a genuine registration (check the gov.uk.site for MOT status) then it simply means it was built using a donor car from 1991/1992.   Again the gov.uk site will tell you what type of car it is registered as.   If it is Robin Hood then that means it has already gone through the the SVA/IVA and will just need MOTing as necessary.   As phaeton said, if it is somethoing else then just walk away.

Insurance is no problem, just don't bother going direct to an insurance company or a comparison site, that would be a waste of time.  Go to a specialist broke such as Adrian Flux, A-Plan...   Depending on your age expect to pay £150-£200

Not sure what you mean by J registration.

J at the start could mean it used a 1970/71 donor car (unlikely), J at the end could mean a 1991/92 donor and is most likely if a Sierra was used.

What is more important, as Phaeton says, is what is recorded on the V5.  If it's a genuine seller they'll be happy to tell you.

I've had to where the VOSA/MOT system & the V5C do not match, the V5C showed it registered correctly with the kit name & model, whereas the VOSA/MOT system just gave it as the make of the engine supplier, maybe the MOT tester can overwrite the name if they don't know what it is, if I remember I'll ask the lad that does mine.

Thank you all for the advice. However I got it all wrong (I get a lot of these "Senior moments"). It has a Q reg No and that is what set the alarm bells Going.

However I have contacted the seller and he assures me that he has the V5 and it is listed as a Robin Hood so all is well.

Thanks again. Mick.
