Ok. So we now know we have a fuel prob
take pipe off carb (again sensible head on ) place fuel hose in a clear bottle and crank engine for a few secs. - lets make sure we are getting fuel. - If no pipe blockage and or split dia in pumpif yes. Move on
ok under the carb inlet pipe is a brass nut inside is a filter - whip it out see if it’s clean etc.if yes
connect all back up crank engine for a couple of secs if no ignition undo top of carb and see if float bowl is full - if yes a more through clean of carb is required- poss buy an overhaul kit
if no blow through carb fuel inlet to check float needle and reset floats to correct level-50mm full droop if Dgav Weber

ive been having a think and am gonna go all out.
remove the pinto and go 2.0 Duratec on throttle body’s Etc just need to decide which gearbox - options appreciatedI done the zetec on body’s. quafe Motorsport gearbox Etc on the one I have ~ was gonna go for a low powered fun cruiser this time but as you say buy the time I invest 4.5k into this I might as well go the full hog

Hi once spark plugs get wet there next to useless.
ok are you running engine mounted fuel pump or elect.
you might be getting flooding due to carb float stickingwhat I would do is cut fuel supply to the carb. Remove the plugs. Crank it to make sure the bores are empty. Slightly warm the plugs with a lighter ( keep ya common sense head on )
install the plugs and crank engine.
then a quick spray of Holts or what ever you have if engine fires then carb needs a light strip and clean or look at fuel pressure to carb if using electric fuel pump.

Ok when you say ign do you mean non start as you say you have sparks when cranking.
simple thing is carb /brake cleaner /easy start.
spray down the carb if you get moment start start looking at fuel side of things.

like most of these things all the clues are there you just need to find them. -

how do you have it wired.
green to coil -black to coil +
brown to earth
white from ign switch live
orange /purple to dizzy.
check you have power with key on then check if you have power when cranking. It might be you have the white wire on the wrong term on ign switch -

Guys sorry to rehash this old topic again but hopefully this is an easy question for someone to answer
I have Sierra stalks ( the ones with the round hazard switch)
and 4 wires coming from the plug to basic nothing as they have been cut by previous owner now none of the wires has any power. Red. Green. White/brown. And a black And on top of the plug a spade terminal that’s live with the ign on but still no power to wires so can someone pls tell me where the power should come from i`e is it a jumper wire from the headlight plug although looking at it there is not nor have been any other wires from the plug.
‘I’ve done a search and I know what wires go where on the mini motor etc but just baffled on where the power comes from in the wiper switch -

Hi chaps.
just bought a zero running a pinto and the throttle linkage is missing the black spring clip that holds the throttle bar into the throttle lever on the carb don’t suppose anyone has a spare hanging about or know where I can buy one without buying the whole linkage.

The reason I ask is as you can see in my profile pic I already have a zero but have just bought a second one that only has a fly screen and was wondering if to leave it or change it for a windscreen

Can I ask does the steering lock still engage.
The reason I ask is the column is telescopic as in in a crash it can move inwards (collapse) but they are near on impossible to pull outwards as there are kind of teeth that grip as you pull the column but allow the column to push. ( imagine there shaped in a V with the column sliding down the middle ) -

Do you have any easy start/ brake cleaner etc. Leave car a few days spray into carb if car starts instantly even for 2 secs then an electronic pump req to solve
choke don’t care if car left for 2 weeks or 2 months. But it sounds like fuel starvation

I already have a caged one 2.0zetec on bodies but fancied one without so I have the choice of what to use on different days -

If in doubt use a magnet. Stainless is non magnetic. UNLESS it’s very very cheap stainless

I doubt it’s coolant temp but worth checking if only to eliminate but popping and banging in exhaust is generally unburnt fuel in exhaust.
Coolant would cause rich running but not unburnt so start on ign side of things. Plugs coil etc. Don’t be fooled into thinking it’s as car warms it could just be something breaking down after a few mins of running not changing as coolant warms

Hi when you say you don’t like how it runs can you be a bit more specific
a lot of things depends on how you drive.
the Fr32 has a power band from 2500- 7000 if you sit around 2000rpm cruising it will never be “On Cam”
as for the Temp. The gauge is just a guide. Treat it as such never assume an engine is hot cold or sideways
ask most of the chaps running smiths flight with a zetec with gauges showing nearly 100c when a laser temp will show the same engine temp around 75-82c
