  1. Did it Quite pleased with myself as I had never tackled anything like that before. Bad news is that there was nothing wrong it . No play in the steering box at all. So put it all back together again. Good exercise though and good for my morale. I now think it is the lower UV joint. Unfortunately that is actually welded to the steering column so although I have a spare I cannot swap it over. Have to get an expert to do it. (Now have a spare Superspec steering rack if anyone needs one)
  2. Any more for this before I pass the numbers to the organisers ? So far I have me Mick (mowerman) (Car repaired yet Mick ?) Nigel (niduncan) Kerry (kerry) Richard (Richard7) Matthew (maw) Chris (tractor) Simon (simonp73) - Possible I'll send full details later this week. Al
  3. Not something you would want to show your grandchildren
  4. I wonder if it has the clutch rattle Have you got a link ? Can't see it at the moment.
  5. Not sure if it's any help but I was in a similar position to you with a car built by someone else and no information on the wiring, so I analysed as much as I could and put the results in my blog. Might be worth reading: http://the-superspec-journey.blogspot.co.uk/2013/11/the-electrics-project-relays_22.html http://the-superspec-journey.blogspot.co.uk/2013/11/the-electrics-project-fuses.html http://the-superspec-journey.blogspot.co.uk/2013/11/the-electrics-project-services.html As you will see from the pictures the main electrical panel with the fuses and relays is in the passenger footwell. 6. Sorry, car not safe at the moment, steering problems. Have a good run !!
  7. I know we haven't had the June meeting yet, but this is just an advance notice for the diaries. As you may have seen from other posts the problems with Barkston Heath have been solved so the track days are back on. Next one is 12/13 July so I suggest we have a get together there, probably on the Saturday. You don't have to race, although I would highly recommend it, it was the first thing I did with my Superspec and it was great fun. It isn't a full blown race track, so you don't go all that fast, but lots of tight corners to throw the car round. And they finish off with a 1/4 mile sprint. If you do race it's £50 per day but big discounts if you are new or bring a friend who is new. Barbeque will be switched on so you can bring and cook your own food. free camping Friday and Saturday. As usual, all are welcome. More details nearer the day or you can e-mail hoody.bill@ntlworld.com with any specific questions.
  8. Good, I'm getting the right one then I guess this is something I can tackle myself (as a non-engineer) ? Disconnect the track rods and the steering column and then it's just the 2 U-bolts ? Then put the new one in and check the tracking ?
  9. I think you are right, I just bought a reconditioned Escort rack off E-Bay after checking the dimensions with the seller and they appear identical (50" from end-to-end, 14.5" between gaiters on main rack and 12" track rod.)
  10. I could do with knowing as well. My steering is suddenly making a very respectable 'clunk' when the steering wheel is moved. Bottom UV joint looks OK, so suspect it is the steering rack. Anyone know ?
  11. I did a lovely 30 mile run as well early afternoon to test out some modifications AND opened a bottle of red And I didn't get all 4 wheels off the ground, I think I am getting too old for doing that !!
  12. It's a Rover ECU, but seems logical it might need the same, that would explain it..
  13. That does seem to have worked. Either that or it is a quick learner Just did that and took her out and she is running much better, lovely and smooth.
  14. How clever are ECUs ? My Superspec exhaust has been blowing for a few weeks, making a lovely noise and burbllng on the overrun but otherwise running and idling nicely. MOT coming up so fixed it yesterday. Noise and burble all gone, but first time out she is idling very roughly and doesn't seem to be running as smoothly. Is that logical behaviour ? Will it self heal ?
  15. Just heard back from Castle Bytham and they would love to have us (turns out the organiser is an old friend), particularly as the clash with the Bourne show means they will be a bit light on cars. They will be parking us on a road that leads out of the village (the centre is closed off), so although the fair runs from 10:00 to 16:00 we will be able to drive in/out as required. This is a lovely little village 'fete' and I am sure everyone will enjoy wandering around if I can go for a hat trick on the weather So please let me know who will be coming with a car so I can warn them. So far it's: me Mick (mowerman) Nigel (niduncan) Kerry (kerry) Richard (Richard7) Matthew (maw) Chris (tractor) Cheers Al
  16. She is the one I talked to. Unfortunately my car has a 2005 plate so it's difficult to disguise. And I don't want to risk putting false plates on
  17. Actually Bourne have just rejected us Just had an e-mail back from the organisers saying they treat 'classic' properly and accept only cars built before 1994 and kit cars are not included. Should I go ahead with Plan B (Castle Bytham) or will people want to go to the Bourne Show as normal visitors ?
  18. Time to look ahead and pencil in your diaries. Continuing with our successful Sunday outings I would like to suggest we have our next get together at either the Bourne Classic Car Show (http://www.bournemotorclub.co.uk/carshow/2013show.php) or the Castle Bytham Summer Fair (http://www.midsummerfair.co.uk/). Both of these are held on Sunday 22nd June. Primary one would be the Bourne show and I have e-mailed the organisers to check they can take 8-10 cars and park us all together. If that is not possible I know the organiser of the Castle Bytham fair and I am sure they would love to have us there. I am not sure how practical it would be to have picnics at the Bourne show (anyone know ?), but I know we can at Castle Bytham. Can I have expressions of interest please, and whether you would bring the car ? Al
  19. Yes, the weather was just about perfect. Good run up there, great pub, good food, good company (25 with 10 cars). Thanks to all who supported it.
  20. And my thanks to Andi as well for the suggestion. Great fun and a perfect way to spend a warm Saturday. And for Kerry, the short cut back worked well although I did get slightly concerned when we had to cross a cattle-grid a couple of times.
  21. Many thanks for organising that, all we need now is the weather
  22. Here's a couple I took Sorry about the thumb
  23. Thanks to all so far, initial post updated. Now have 21 coming. Wouldn't surprise me if we beat the 30 we had at the first one. Just a heads-up that, unlike the first meeting, we won't will be getting a private room but not a block booking for lunch this time. We will be just ordinary punters who happen to drive nice cars and know each other
