  1. how long would sealant then paint need without the car sat on it? Is just the sealant any good? Would like to do it but don't fancy leaving the car out overnight while it dries. D
  2. so receipts all being in someone elses name isn't a problem?
  3. Want to finish college work so I can work on the car...

  4. Not fixing the holes in the roads saves money on not having to build speed humps.
  5. Hi, Just bought a part built Tiger supercat. Seems like the guy has done a great job so far. I have been given a file if receipts and 2 disks of build photos. I know iva like to see these things but also want you to have done it yourself. Obviously I won't be in these pics and the receipts have someone elses name and address on. How does this fit with iva? Have people with part builds had issues along these lines? Even if I strip it right back for new pics the receipts will tell a story. Other than forgery are there any options or is it not a problem? Cheers David
  6. Oh well, just rang, apparently someone off to look at it at 5am. Chances are its gone... D
  7. I agree its the sensible option. I would like the satisfaction of the self build but am aware it could get frustrating and potentially expensive. I do wonder why the milage of the 2b is so low and why it didn't sell before. but it does look good.
  8. I contacted him last time round. He said he motd it when finished, taxed it as sierra and drove it til someone pointed out he needed iva. Says it works fine. I didn't fancy the strip back to start for the photos.
  9. Hi, Found this on eBay http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewitem?itemId=251437767426 A 2B in Washington registered and ready. Only got a 1.6 ohc engine. How big a job is it to shoehorn in a 2l pinto or other fun alternatives? Quandry time, gamble on an unfinished tiger for the fun of building it or plump for the unknown 2b that's ready to go and tweak it. Very similar money, but would the tiger be a better package in the end, even though it would end up costing more? Help! D
  10. Yes wife wants a test sit as extrication by Cat Rescue would be embarrassing... ;-)
  11. Hi, Looking at a part built unregistered supercat, I am fully aware I may have to strip it and start again. Spoke with the factory and they tell me there should be no issues getting the IVA with this model. Not worried about the work and I would prefer to do it myself (might live to regret that) but just wondered if anyone on here has done one and what they thought. Looking at it as a cheap way to get the parts for what could be a decent car eventually. He has the donor pics and v5, all paperwork for the parts so far. cheers david
  12. Piston heads seems a tad expensive, but keeping an eye. excuse my ignorance but what's a monocoque? Not opposed to anything else but it was a 2b I saw at the factory years ago. Thanks D
  13. Hi, As a newbie looking to get my hands on a new toy/project are there any groups near Eggborough, Selby, York, Doncaster, Wakefield I could check out? Ideally I'd like to see a few cars to get some pointers of what is good/bad, easy fixes and nightmare repairs. Obviously if you know of anything suitable for sale please let me know. Think I'm after a 2B for width of seat, pref <4K Shift worker so some weekday availability. Cheers D
  14. As I said my friend had a c1 and was not impressed, ok for pottering around town but no good on A roads and motorways.
  15. Renaults tend to be great for safety but electrics can be a tad dodgy. Friend bought a new fiesta with a small engine, commutes Chesterfield to Heanor everyday she's much happier with it than her previous Citroen C1 and Punto, both from new. Never had a new car personally coz I think you lose too much money on em. If she's keeping it Vauxhall do the 100,000 mile warranty.
  16. Glad she's ok, can combine paracetamol or co-codamol with ibuprofen for aches and pains if she needs to. Modern cars are designed to crumple to absorb the impact. Many crashes look terrible and the occupants walk away, safety has moved on so much. Sucessive governments are only interested in reducing speed, this will not do anything for bad drivers. Personally I'd like to see a reassessment every few years or make something like IAM with reassessements given greater incentives. Still, morons keep me in work so I shouldn't complain, but they take innocent people out with them. D
  17. Hi, Can anyone give me some pointers on how to identify what model of kit from looking at it. Off to look at one soon and think its a 2b but would like to be sure and owner says he doesn't know. Didn't know if there was a site/link to some pics of chassis suspension that would make it a giveaway. Cheers D
  18. Bet it sounds awesome too. Do you pay silly tax on that or is it just age related? D

    V8 2B

Hi, Found this on fleabay. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151213062232?redirect=mobile Sounds very interesting. How heavy is the V8? I would imagine this would effect the handling a tad. Shame I'm 300 miles away or I'd fancy a look at it. Cheers Dsvid

    Older Kits

After chewing the ear of Mr shelton late last night I'm going to look a lot deeper into the wonderful world of IVA. Not giving up on the idea of stripping a part build and starting again but will keep a beady eye out for a registered one. All I can find are 5-6k which is pushing the budget to dangerous levels with the management. Thanks for your warnings and advice, big thanks to Phil. D
