  1. Is there an optimum size for a swirl pot? Any advantage to a bigger one? I believe the GBS one is 1L but reading RichardL's blog, i think he used a 2L?
  2. Hmm, is it ok to have AN-8 (screw-on) fittings? The GBS one doesn't. .. Also, problem if the top feed is vertical rather than horizontal? Space under the bonnet?

    Rev Counter

An electronic search of the IVA manual brings up only one mention of 'tachometer' - it can be used during the emissions test instead of a separate engine speed measuring device. I remember the excitement when the 3rd car i owned had a rev counter :-)
  4. Based on the fact that it seems to be the first thing that rusts and it's very obvious, i was considering putting a coat of Hammerite on the central boss of the brake disc (obviously not the braking area) - is that ok to do? I ask only because no-one ever seems to do this - i saw a brand new 5-series that looked great except for the trace of rust already appearing on the disc boss.
  5. On a similar subject, do you know the size of that GBS swirl pot? 1L, 1.5L, 2L? Or physical dimensions? They are much cheaper on eBay...
  6. By my maths, if you want a 5 minute film at the end (at 25fps) and assuming 200 hours build time, i make that you'll need to take one pic every 2 minutes or so - is that right? If so, that will be tricky to remember to do...
  7. That's what I've been told before, which is why I'm considering opting for a Q plate. I've tried reading the relevant documents online but they're as clear as mud...is this normal for MOT centres or is your bloke just very nice to you? Ps: this is the thread that discusses in more detail (sorry, on this forum, not GBS): http://www.rhocar.org/index.php?showtopic=42155
  8. Hi, I'm hoping to get my kit about the same time, although it's already been delayed by 2 weeks (should have got it this weekend according to the original schedule). Can i ask when you ordered yours? How are you doing the time lapse? I thought about it but couldn't find a cheap camera that had a time lapse function. Have you got one or are you going to take the pics manually? I'm planning to use new parts as well but I'm considering opting for a Q plate, to save on the hassle of future MOTs (read the thread on the GBS owners forum). Good luck!
  9. I've bought some Halfords caliper paint which is working fine but I can't seem to clean the brush after use - neither water or white spirit is working. Any ideas what I should be using? No suggestions on the tin or online. Edit: found a data sheet - paint mostly contains xylene, if that helps?
  10. Don't like Tiff or VBH - Jodie Kidd would be good. Third member should be Tom Ford - writes for TG mag and is a great presenter (he used to do Fifth Gear). Strange that the article doesn't even suggest there will be others? Chris Evans is ok but he is too conservative - he'll never be prepared to say what everyone thinks which is what made JC so great. It'll just be a dull old car show...
  11. Don't think my wood and masonry bits will be any good even if i sharpen them Never had to drill metal before...
  12. Ok, more shopping needed.... My 20 year old Halford specials are unlikely to do the job but man, are there a lot of choices. Any recommendations for what material to get (cobalt, titanium coated etc)? Any brand better than another? I'd rather not spend a fortune (how much is the best?) but i don't want cheap stuff either.
  13. Sorry, i meant the clamps for holding body panels while glue dries. They're pretty cheap, i'll get both sizes.
  14. There seem to be 2 sizes of clamp - do i need the 6" ones or are the mini 2" ones enough?

    Engine Ecus

I looked on the Emerald website - does flying loom just mean a load of wires not yet taped up and just needing connectors added on the ends? If so, what sort of connections - are they soldered, crimped? Is it something a novice like me could do or is it inadvisable?
  16. Just to be clear, those are one single piece - there is no extra bracket that brumster mentions. If that's needed, I'm in the same boat as you. I thought the whole caliper just bolted on to the hub, no? There seem to be enough bolt holes on the caliper to do that (i haven't got my kit yet, so i can't see what the hub looks like).
  17. I bought these cosworth calipers http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=13593 and they are advertised as including carriers but they are not a separate item - they're forged into the body of the caliper (unless I've also got something wrong - my kit hasn't arrived yet), so you may not be able to buy separate carriers? I could be talking rubbish, of course...
  18. Continuing on my series of asking questions about ABSOLUTELY everything, front brakes next. While researching options other than refurbished Sierra calipers and disks from GBS (about £200), bloke at Rally Design suggested a Willwood pack they do for £320 - 4-pot shiny new calipers, supposed to be very good (although they would say that, of course). Up to now, I've managed to avoid paying more than i have to but the Willwoods do look good and shouldn't skimp on brakes, i guess? Opinions?

    Gbs Shocks

So did you get them from GBS? If so, do you know what model no. they are?

    Gbs Shocks

Yup, those are the ATRs and that is the price. But they also have a cheaper set for £400 on their website and i just assumed they were GAZ - no mention of brand name on the website.

    Gbs Shocks

Ah yes, i remember them showing me the workshop - i thought that was just for the higher spec ATR jobbies. Ok, no probs - I'll stick with the ones they make....

    Gbs Shocks

Sorry to ask on here but can't seem to log on to the GBS owners forum... Does anyone know what size/type/model no. of Gaz shocks are used on the GBS? The GBS website is, as for everything, useless for detail like that (probably because they don't want us to go and get the same parts cheaper ssomewhere else )
