    Diff Swap

Hi all, I was down at the scrap yard the other day and saw a diff hanging off a 4x4 sierra. Someone has alreay taken the discs and calipers. Are all 4x4 seirra's blessed with a LSD? If they are.... will it just bolt into my existing drum brake rear axle? Im sure this has been covered before but i can't find the thread. Cheers Jon

    V8 Info

Hi all, Any of you V8 2b builders got a web site that i can browse to see how hard it is to get the rover V8 into a 2b? Perhaps even some costings on extras needed.... alterations to brake servo's, steering column routes...that sort of thing? Cheers, Jon
  7. Elwe, Thanks for all that information The reason for me asking about the SD1 gearbox isn't for fitting a V8, it's because I have an Pug MI16 engine in the garage which I want to put in my 2B. I've found out that I can use a LDV Pilot bellhousing and SD1 gearbox to get it into a rear wheel drive format. I've not got onto thinking about input shafts, clutches or anything like that yet although I was hoping i could use the Pug flywheel and pressure plate with the SD1 clutch plate. I might be very wrong as i don't know enough yet. I do know that it's been done before in the Sylva Striker by a few owners for hill climbs coz of the engine weight / power but haven't managed to track any of them down yet to quiz. Jon
  8. Hi all, Random question of the week....how big is an SD1 gearbox compared to a type 9? and is the gear stick input on top (alla type 9) or is it via linkages? Tar, Jon
  9. When i was fixing my nose cone to the bonnet I used some tiny M4 dome allen bolts from screwfix. I think it looks a bit better than pot rivets. when I eventally get round to fitting you stone guards im going to use them again If it helps!!! Jon
  10. Hi Guys and Girls, This winter I'm planning to do some modifications to my 2B+ engine. I'm currently running a 205 block 2.1 Pinto sucking through twin dellorto 40's, standard 4* 1987 vintage head and blowing out through 4 into 1 RH manifold and RH stainless silencer, standard cam and electronic distributor powered by Ford amplifier. This was the set up that I took to SVA a few months ago. Before I'd even finished building I spotted an FR33 kent cam on Ebay, and it's lived under my bed for the past 18 months and so I think it's time that I used it! I'd also like to get away from the 4* head and having to use lead additives. I would like to install the cam. So my proposed set up will be: Twin dellorto 40's Injection head-Port matched and basic DIY gas flowed FR33 kent cam Same RH exhaust system (94 dB's at SVA) Modified advanced curve as per Dave Andrews instructions standard Ford amplifier Does anyone else have a similar set-up..? same cam..? any estimates on BHP and driveability..? offer any advice!! Cheers, Jon P.S. next winter's project is a pug MI16 engine transplant!
  11. Hi Nigel, I've purchased the said component from maplin and installed it (the wrong way round first) and all seems fine almost. The rev counter has stopped its wild behavour and now responds predictably but i think its reading low now. Did you use the calabration srew poteniometer thingy on the back of the gauge or was yours a true reading? Cheers Jon.
  12. Hi Guys, Can anyone tell me what a condenser on the points actually does in a car ignition system?
  13. Cheers Nigel, nice to know im not the only one! Jon
  14. Hi Guys, Anyone got any ideas? I have a VDO rev counter that works fine when stationary but when im driving it reads very high. The needle still goes up and down with the revs but off the scale when the engines doing about 5-6k. Its as if its picking up pulses from somewhere else aswel as the coil connection. I've checked i've got all the connections right and tight so im at a bit of a loss.!! Any wacky theories appreciated!
  15. Hi, Tried really had to find the answer by searching but couldn't....... The car (not mine) has been standing for a few months and the clutch is siezed.. Tried starting it in first gear with no success.... Whats the best method.... without dismantling......oh and its a porsche Cheers, Jon
  16. Hi Trev & Karl I'll see you there. Better get in the garage tonight and get the windscreen fitted! The motorbike helmet is comfortable but it ain't the best for posing in! Cheers Jon.

    Suspension

How do you stop the bloody zimmers squeeking all the time?
  19. What do these adjustment screws control?
  20. Hi Chris, Yeah I know the domes your talking about. How do they control anything? Im a carb numpty! I did wonder if it could be an air leak around the throttle spindle. Tar Jon
  21. Hi guys, I've just got my hands on a morgan tune carb balancer. I connected it all up to find that all my flows are very different. I have adjusted the balancing bar between the two carbs but what can you do to balance each barrell to it's friend? Cheers Jon
