Land Rover County screen with all the correct markings, cut to fit the MG Midget frame ( didn't like the RH ) with all the markings showing in bottom right corner --- £ 80 charged by Autoglass.   But it was a decade ago.

Sharp cutter both sides, pour alcohol into the crack set fire to it, what could possibly go wrong 🤣😂

They also like photos of the safety critical areas they can’t immediately see. Lower seatbelt mounts are a favourite.

Having just done an IVA I wasn't asked for any photos of anything, although he could see the seatbelt mounts, which he failed as I had used split spring washers they cannot be used on any part of the seatbelt mount/brackets although they came with the kit. The other one on seatbelts is you have to be able to take the bolt/nut out/off with a single spanner so one end has to be captive, as said mine was not a RH so fixings might be different I used 8.8 nuts & bolts which wasn't acceptable.

Thanks, so there is a work around for that - bit of a relief! I've also seen that there needs to be VIN plates from RH? don't have those I think, but presume there is a workaround for that too

You will need the VIN stamped into the chassis somewhere on the offside in the engine bay area, you will also need a plate with the VIN number which can be riveted onto any surface in the cockpit https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/andygallecher/m.html?ssPageName= will make up whatever you want. I had the MEV logo, the Make, Model, Vin, My name, Colour & year of manufacture.

  3. To arrange the IVA which you can do online https://www.gov.uk/apply-vehicle-approval, they need to see the receipt for the new chassis, I wasn't the original purchaser of the kit, so had to declare I was completing a part built, even though it wasn't started as the original receipt wasn't in my name. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/iva-application-form-for-passenger-cars-iva-1c also https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/971185/individual-vehicle-approval-amateur-built-declaration.pdf

For the actual IVA you just need to take the V5C so they can see what the engine is to determine the test it has to have,

  4. It won't pass IVA unless it is marked, has to have 43R & the word Laminated on it, I've just failed IVA on this same issue, not on a RH, but I submitted mine with a laminated screen from a 1973 VW Beetle 1303, the tester agreed it was the correct screen, even said VW on it, but as it wasn't marked with 43R & Laminated it failed. Also a heated screen would also need blowers, go figure that one.

  5. Yesterday we were at Santa Pod drifting, went to KFC at the side of the A45, came out & the LT35 would not start, it turned over fired for a couple of seconds & stopped. We think it might be the immobiliser, filled in the online form, 15 minutes later advised by text that somebody would be with us within the hour, they turned up in about 50 minutes with a recovery flatbed, as we had a diabetic with us we chose to leave at this point & get home in the accompanying car. About two hours after we got home he turned up with the LT35 & the drift car on the back of the flatbed, we live about 110 miles from Santa Pod.

I would highly recommend Autoaid used them 3 times (I think) in the last 10-12 years always been a great service, quite bizarrely 2 of those times have been on a return journey from Santa Pod, maybe I need to stop going there!

  6. They may have changed their T&C's since being bought out, but that is still my understanding, this is from their website

"If you break down more than a mile from home, and if our operators can't quickly fix your vehicle by the roadside, we will tow you to any U.K onward destination of your choosing or a garage of your choice!"

I've always read that as taking you to where you want to go or take you back home, but I could be wrong!

  7. Are you sure? Auto Aid brought me home on the 2 occasions I've used it, including once when I drove out to my broken down daughter & grandkids, let them come home in my car & then claim her car was mine. They took that one to her home, I wouldn't have it it recover home wasn't an option.

    3. Insure the kit with engine number

    4. Make allowed drive to a local MOT test station, obtain an MOT certificate using the engine number, I have a copy of this.

    Do NEITHER of these things,

    3. Insure on the VIN number not the engine number

    4. Do NOT get an MOT, again it's not on the engine number it's the VIN number, but worse than that once your car is on the VOSA MOT system it will need an MOT 12 months from that date. So if it takes you another 4 months to get through the IVA & the retest, then 2 months to get it registered, you will only have 6 months before you have to take it back for a MOT. If you get the IVA first you have 3 years before a MOT is required.

The MOT & the IVA are completely different tests, they test different things, you can pass an IVA test with illegal tyres if they are of the correct specifications, you can pass an MOT with under 4mm radii inside the cabin area.

To get your VED on a newly registered kit, call any of the specialist insurers & insure it on the VIN, they all will give you 30 days to supply the Reg No if you explain.

  9. @brumster Advice is good, if you have no emotional attachment to the kit, then take good images of all the individual items & list them on Fleecebay, they will sell for what the market thinks they are worth. Personally I'd list the chassis just on the off chance somebody needs a spare, it's worth about £20-25 weighed in along with the hassle of getting it there, so maybe that's a good starting price. On the other bits, don't underestimate the cost of delivery, I often do this & would by the time Fleecebay & PayPoo have taken their share I'd have been better off financially putting things in the bin, but I'd rather they be used.

  10. Bought just before I sold my kit, stands me at £60 with a brand new set of bushes included, but willing to let them go a bit cheaper if somebody wants them, collection from Worksop or postage at cost.

Do I need to insure the Kit car?

Although @richyb66 is sort of right you need to check your own car insurance & see whether your kit on a trailer being towed would be covered on your existing policy, if it's not than it maybe prudent to insure it separately.

  12. With the Freestyle (picture in avatar) roof, doors, screen weren't an option, so I went with https://www.jsaccessories.co.uk/buy/frank-thomas-monsoon-wp-oversuit-black/45846.htm along with a leather flying helmet, goggles & gloves. The helmet, goggles & gloves were standard driving wear, the suit & motorcycle helmet only came out when it got bad, do you go straight into the office, or do you go to your digs first, just thinking can you get changed before going into work?

  13. Towed the car to the Rolling Road on the slightly dubious A-frame but we won't discuss that occifer, he started with a cold compression test, 180,175,190,185 then stripped & rebuilt the carb, then put it on the rollers to play with the furling & timing, he set it at 9 degrees & managed to get an extrapolated 107bhp at 4200rpm runs very nice now, £80 well spent I think. Just need to get an MOT on it now, I've been over it & can't see any thing wrong, might just have a quick look at the back brakes over the weekend the handbrake isn't too good, so maybe just adjust the shoes, once I have that it's gong to have to go on ebay as I am loosing my garage which I intended to store it in. It doesn't deserve to live outside through winter.

  14. No it just wouldn't go above 1200rpm at all, but on Wednesday afternoon/evening (I think) I reset the tappets, rechecked the float, blew out the main jets, changed a fuel filter after the pump, the one before the pump seemed okay, reset the timing. Kept my grandson & granddaughter entertained with the popping & banging & flames shooting out of the carb. But after resetting everything it seemed to run okay only did about a mile as no MOT, I took it last night over to a guy who's going to put it on a rolling road today to setup properly.

I ran 2”x1“ box under the car from each mounting point. It acts like a suspension strut and replaced the anti rollbar

i also used 90 degree plate inside the bay to sandwich the stainless panels

Don't have any images do you?

  16. Oh Dear how stupid do I now feel, I even watched a Youtube showing me how to do it & then did it completely different, TBF the last time I did the tappets on a Pinto would be late 70's. I had to buy a new set of feeler gauges as I couldn't locate the 2 sets I know I should have 'somewhere' but they wouldn't fit under the tappets so I even got the angry grinder out to make them.

Not sure I will ever live this one down, however I'm sure as my dementia gets worse I'll forget about it so won't care when you point your fingers at me & snigger
