    Age Related Plate

You only get a q plate if the donor parts are from all over the place. When you have your BUI at the DVLA they will check to see if the engine and other bits "match" your declaration form and are from the type of donor you have declared, then you'll get an age related plate. The moment they have a doubt about the components then you may get a q plate. My inspector (2 weeks ago) said that he very rarely gave a q plate to a kit car these days.
  2. I get it on Google Chrome every so often and on my iPad (Safari I'm guessing?), but never noticed it on Explorer if that helps Mat-Moo?
  3. Today was a blast. I tweaked the springs a bit more and increased the damping and its better, but with 2 up this morning she was still "smacking her arse" on the road on rough bits still. I tweaked the speedo sensor as well, it now works and above 70 too! Early afternoon I went to see Feek's build and was treated to tea & biccies and a chin wag, many thanks Feek! On the way home I gave her some stick in straight lines and corners and I can't shift the grin from my face, brilliant!!! :D You learn some new everyday though, always wear sun screen in an open car, boy, are my arms burnt!

I've got the Gaz coil overs at the rear so I'll "tweak" the damping up as you suggested and try again. I'm sure the damping is set fully anti clockwise front and rear. Any suggestions for the front (Gaz coil overs as well)? Cheers in advance.
  5. For the bulb to work we must have 12 volts across it. You have 12 volts to the switch (hazards work don't they?) and you say you have checked the ground wire to the switch? So the problem must be the switch itself or the bulb (could be a 24volt one, but it's more likely I'll be buying the first round in a pub!!!) Either swap the whole switch assembly for another one or change the bulb are your only options if live and ground are present. My money is still on the earth not being sound!

OK, so my 2B is banging it's rear sub frame on the floor over dips and bumps. What's the best thing to do, NOT over tension the springs and just increase the damping? How is that done on a GAZ, clockwise or anti and how many "clicks" have people got on theirs? The front doesn't bang but the wheels do move up & down a lot, or is that just that I can actually see them working? What's the consensus on settings them veryone, and don't say buy a Zero!
  7. Despite bending the bracket back I stll have no speedo, needs a bit work methinks, I hope the head isn't damaged!!! Having bled the brakes through today (no caliper leak so far) I took her out for a blast and she needs yet more rear spring stifness!!! Timbo, I think I need your help!!??

    Im A Dad

Many congratulations to the three of you! Get used to sleepless nights from now on!
  9. Welcome to the mad house! It's a fun place to be and there is a wealth of information on here and people full of .......... Ideas! Do buy a Zero, you won't be disappointed!
  10. Plastic tubing of the right size can be pushed over the bulb to help remove it, but unless you know whether its a push or bayonet fitting it still may be awkward to get out.
  11. If the cobra seats are the standard ones they sell on the site for around £150 then the GBS runners do fit them.
  12. First of all you need to determine whether its the sender or the gauge. Use a DMM to measure the senders resistance to ground. If that fluctuates its faulty, if not, it's your gauge. Have you wrapped the sender in too much PTFE tape so it's not grounding to the block properly?
  13. How did you get on, or is it today after the date confusion?
  14. Rear caliper now rebuilt (once I have got some more silicone brake fluid I'll bleed the system (again!) and see if the leak has gone). The speed sensor bracket appears to have been bent about an inch away from its original position??? Even if the prop shaft had moved enough to catch the sensor head I wouldn't have expected it to move that much? I'll make a new bracket to move the sensor to a position that will hopefully means that the speedo works above 70 mph!
  15. When I first rebuilt my calipers I didn't change the handbrake mechanism seals as the Haynes manual implied they were hard to do without a special tool to compress a spring in the caliper. When I first got the calipers, one of the handbrake mechanisms was very stiff and needed lots of "work" and WD40 to free it up. On my way back from Newark at the weekend my brake warning light started to flicker as I was losing fluid through said seal!!! I know, I should have done it the first time! Anyway, last night I took the plunge and stripped the caliper, that's the easier bit. There are in fact 2 seals in the handbrake mechanism (didn't see that in the manual) both of which were shot! After a bit of thought I ended up using a valve spring compressor and a 17mm socket to compress the spring in the caliper to the correct position and although getting the cir-clip back in the was a fiddly process with the spring compressor in the way the job is now done. Don't be put off doing all the seals, it's easier than it looks. Caliper needs repainting though! HTH someone else!
  16. Ensure all the multi plugs on the column switches a clean (wd40) and tight. Ensure the earth wire is grounded properly and if that still doesn't help then the bulb holder may be loose or dirty. Given that the switches have a common ground if all other switches are working then it may be more likely to be the bulb and/or bulb holder (but still check the earthing!)
  17. Best of luck for tomorrow!
  18. I used live in 3 bedroom flat in east London and yes 1 spare room was full and there were odds and ends in a cupboard on the balcony. What I don't understand is how when we moved to a 4 bedroom house with extra reception rooms, a double garage & shed is how the hell we still managed to fill every room, garage and shed with stuff?????
  19. I'll need a shed for the mower! There is no room in the existing shed and it's not going in the garage! I wonder if the wife will let me park it in her crafting shed, sorry, "studio"? Oh look, a flock of pigs! I have a "useful junk" pile under a tarp in a quiet corner under some tress, the funny thing is I've never used anything from that pile?! I must be brutal and take it all down the dump!
  20. I have a perfectly good mower, I can mow both front and back lawns in under an hour so there is no need to change. So why have I gone and bought 2 knackered sit on mowers from ebay? So I have something to fix! They are the same make and model and between them I think there is enough parts to make 1 good one. Is this normal behaviour??? According to her indoors I have to rebuild the porch first? Apparently I said I would once the 2B is on the road, I don't remember saying that and the mowers look like more fun, still, she's the boss! And if I want to use my sit on to mow the back lawn I'm going to have to widen the back gate to get it there!!

    First Engine Run!

It's always a superb feeling when the engine starts, especially as I never expect the thing to run even though I have checked and checked again! Well done, now crack on and get the rest done!
  22. They are there to help you pass, within the rules. Be calm, polite, don't argue and smile! Make sure you can prove the age of the engine if it has no cat and if you have a digi speedo can prove it's maximum reading is more than the cars maximum speed. Best of luck!
  23. Gives me a good excuse to get one! I've spun the disc against a fixed point that I set up by each hub but I don't know if that's enough to pick up any run out. I've cleaned the hub and disc mating surfaces, the rear discs are new (it did it with the old discs as well) and the front discs have been skimmed so I think a dial gauge is a must! I'm convinced, when can I get to machine mart?
  24. I've been lucky with the DVLA & VOSA unless only the bad stuff gets dumped on the forum. Just over 3 weeks from posting the IVA form until the car was on the road! Don't worry about the IVA, just read the manual well and build carefully and you'll be fine although the best part of a grand worse off! After the registration number & tax disc arrived on Saturday a quick trip to Halfords procured some new number plates. So far I've been to the garage to fuel up, picked my daughter up from the local stables and been to Newark for some of the day yesterday! General feeling so far, awesome, great fun but I'm still nervous about "hurrying along"! Problems so far: I have had to tighten up the rear springs as my rear subframe has lost some paint! Better now, but I still need a little more stiffness. C spanner out again. Speedometer starts to behave oddly at 69 mph or above and in the last 5 miles yesterday it stopped reading altogether! Reposition the sensor I guess. Under firm braking there is a slight judder. New rear discs, fronts skimmed so I'm not sure what that is? Right rear brake caliper weeping around the handbrake lever seal (not changed when the caliper was overhauled (hindsight is wonderful!)) One coolant blanking pipe jubilee clip needed to be slightly tightened as the joint was slightly damp. Steering wheel slightly off centre! Front N/S wing was loose when I got home, bolts tightened and loctited! And my arse is too big for the seat, hopefully the seat will sag and conform to my rear! Roll on the next trip out once these issues are sorted.
  25. If the weather looks ok I may well pop up to Newark tomorrow! That's if I've not stuffed it into a ditch by then! I'll take it easy today if there is break in the weather!
