  1. Yes Iain, balancing them is a waste of time. Just required to roll the car. Thanks again.
  2. Sorry Ian, I am a Magpie. Shiny things attract me more.
  3. Thanks for the offer Ian. Brooks can I take up your offer please. I will have a quick look on the map and see if we can arrange something.
  4. As above, I want the a set of wheels to drop the tiger on. Anything will be fine. As close to S.Yorks as possible. meant to say pcd
  5. Cheers, I will look into that once the engine is running
  6. Not much progress here, 150mile round trip a day and deadlines at work means I am on go slow. But I have learnt that i hate car body work. Shutlines and dents have been the order of the day. What I hate the most is the dust gathering in the garage. I have to hover it on a regular basis . Some pictures below On a side note, i need to join the fibreglass inner and outer frame on my window. Any advice welcome, I am thinking of using a epoxy infused strip between the 2 parts and filling the remain void with chopped mat strands and then sanding smooth.
  7. wtd. Wiring loom I am after a reasonably priced wiring loom, premier, Vicky green any type useful as long as wiring diagram is supplied. Cheers
  8. Take a picture. and that of other peoples reaction
  9. Fuel tank pictures I will be moving on to running brake lines and wiring during the week. Am off to tidy the garage now. Enjoy and have a good weekend.
  10. The engine has now been installed. I decided to use the original mounting point on the car as opposed to side mounting though the front chassis rail. They are quite thin box section and would require reinforcing. We picked up on the Kseries front mounting points and fabricated a mount to use the original chassis location. I think it looks neat . The mount was made by Martin Keenan The alloy tank has also been completed. The tunnel had to be cut a bit to fit the gearbox. I really did not want this but it had to be done

    Late xmas present
  12. Nicko, I have seen their unit. Might call in someday. Was thinking of something like this http://forums.volksworld.com/showthread.php?1852-Safari-window-for-beetles
  13. Any metallurgists in the house(Grim ) what do you thing about my choice of material for a brake caliper mount. Logic is that the calipers are forged ali anyways. Seems the highest strength in the 6000 series alloy range. http://www.aalco.co.uk/datasheets/Aluminium-Alloy-6082-T6-Extrusions_338.ashx
  14. Cheers Bob, problem is getting the thicker poly carbonate to form like the 4mm one
  15. Keith, I meant they have a mdf cnc router. You can buy material and book a time slot on the machine. Or they can supply everything
  16. Keith, there is a fab lab not far from work for me. They have a CNC router. I have used them for 3d printing and they are pretty reasonable. If its not too complicated. I will rustle a quick 2D cad drawing for you. http://ellesmereportfablab.manufacturinginstitute.co.uk/
  17. I am after some suggestions for the rear windscreen. As you can see from the pictures below, the car does not have a boot opening. I have been thinking of making a openable rear screen to aid access. The rear screen is 4mm polycarbonate material and its not rigid enough to seal. Any suggestion as to a suitable solution to make a frame to mount the screen in?
  18. Is there any chance I can edit the above posts to get the links updated, please?
  19. Sorry about the pictures, I have just organised my library and the links seem to be broken I will fix this. Unfortunately, normal work starts tomorrow and the progress will be undoubtedly slow. Today, I decided to take some weight out the doors as I have a side impact bar.I had a dimple die made up to neaten up the holes. I also had a hole cutter to make it all neat. The dies have put some strength back into the door I also collected the machined rings for the wheel hubs to convert them into ford 4 x 108 PCD. the rings were machined thicker and grooved to aid weld penetration. The welded assembly will be trued afterwards and balanced. Its a very tight fit. Had to be hammered in.
  20. Cage and battery tray mods finshed!
  21. A bit more progress. The fabrication of the roll cage got underway today. I was at the MKEngineering from around 11am and Martin has been doing a fantastic job. the fit is mm perfect. Just enough space for headlining material I also decided to go with the rover Kseries engine as the cost of rebuilding the A-series is unbelieveable. I decided to cut the battery tray abit to move the engine backwards.
  22. In my opinion, touring with hydraulic clutch bothers me. A fault on the clutch actuation mechanism means RAC. With cables, I carry a spare one and quite an easy change on the side of the road
  23. Good one Richard, all the best. Will be sending some work your way soon
  24. That bearded bloke has been again with some more bits. Cannot wait to finish for xmas and get stuck in again. I had 2 extra holes cut into the bonnet to aid ventilation and i think it looks nice. Bonnet is gonna get fitted next week and the dreaded fillering and sanding can begin.
