  1. Haven't I seen something somewhere about an angled drive for that very thing? Can't find it now though. PS: Found it: Europa Angle Drives

    Clutch Quadrant?

But his problem is making sure he's got the right amount of free 'end' - the difference between outer sleeve and inner cable as I understand the question? Bigger overall lengths are available - as said Sierra Cosworth is 1835mm - not the Escort Cosworth which the local place got incorrectly for me which is over 2m long. That one would have to route into the nose cone and back! QH part no should be QCC1585.
  3. Thanks - you know, I looked there and didn't see them!
  4. Just replacing/cleaning out cooling system as it has started to overheat for the first time in years. I've replaced the original 1995 kit radiator with a coolman which has the pipes sticking straight out, without 90 degree bends, so was wondering if anybody knew the hose part numbers or what car they would be for. Both top and bottom hoses now need to be 90 degree bends, top with 8x3 inch legs and bottom with 7x5 inch legs. Preliminary searching has found lots of radiator topics and one reference to welding bends onto the rad to use std hoses.
  5. Didn't RH homemade spanners used to come with the kit - I think mine did.

    Sand Blasting

I hired a commercial sand blaster. It came with a huge engine-driven compressor, the sort that gets towed behind a workmen's truck, and a complete leather helmet with face shield with its own air supply. The 'sand' was very sharp, black shiny stuff. I cleaned up all the steel/cast parts with it very nicely and not had any corrosion come back 10 years later. Only problem was I think if I'd blasted any bits too much they would have been worn away to nothing. It cost me about £100 for the weekend but it was great fun. (Need a bit of spare land to do it on - not the sort of thing to do in a garage or driveway)
  7. Dangerous place - B&Q: A "heads up" for those of you who may be regular B&Q customers. Over the last month I became a victim of a clever scam while out shopping. Simply going out to get supplies has turned out to be quite traumatic. Don't be naive enough to think it couldn't happen to you. Here's how the scam works: Two seriously good-looking 20-21 year-old girls come over to your car as you are packing your shopping into the trunk. They both start wiping your windshield with a rag and Mr Sheen with their breasts almost falling out of their skimpy T-shirts. It is impossible not to look. When you thank them and offer them a tip, they say "No" and instead ask you for a ride to another B&Q store. If you agree, they get in the back seat. On the way, they start having sex with each other. Then one of them climbs over into the front seat and gets frisky with you, while the other one steals your wallet. I had my wallet stolen May 4th, 9th, 10th, twice on the 15th, 17th,20th, & 24th. Also Jun 1st, 3rd, twice on the 7th, three times yesterday and very likely again this upcoming weekend. So please be careful and warn others!
  8. Don't know what the GRP is like now, or what colours fare better or worse, but my red panels are now almost orange and no longer match the red painted bits.
  9. It's actually SIKAFLEX if you are searching for it - certainly used to be readily available from motor factors and recommended by RH in the build manuals. Likewise, mine has worked well over 13 years on the sender and filler neck. Its only supposed to be 'temporarily' fuel resistant which I think means not continually immersed. It is jet fuel resistant which is nice if you are thinking of fitting a jet engine - or a diesel.

    Which Sat Nav?

I've used TomTom on a pda for some time but I think I'm going to get a TT One V3 Europe. It seems to be the best/easiest software and comes with TomTom share ability to update maps. The UK version, if that's all you need, is little over £100 but you can't add maps later I don't believe - it does not have an SD card slot and only limited storage. You can get the TMC traffic antenna separately later if required, cheapest I've seen it is about £35, which then allows free traffic service. Maps on my pda cannot be updated without buying a newer map and traffic is a subscription service. Did ask in Halfords yesterday about them, both TT One and Garmin Nuvi are good prices - their after sales support varies though. TT is back to the manufacturer whereas Garmin is new for old replacement.
  11. Thanks for that - I'll give it a go - where would I start looking for the material? Is it available form the usual trim suppliers or is it specialist stuff?
  12. Just a quick thread hijack - what do you guys use the Surreys for, I mean what are they suitable for? Rain protection? - when driving or when static or both? I have an older style/cheaper RH top which is quite water proof but a right pfaff to erect - I was wondering how effective the Surreys are.
  13. I don't think it has to be exactly level - I did lower the gearbox mount to lower the rear end of the box but that was to try to make the drive from the box through to the diff run in as straight a line as possible.
  14. Less than 200 kg I think, so the smaller of the standard engine stands will do it - in fact I've got a Ford V6 sitting on my 3-legged one right now so I guess (hope) it's strong enough. The only snag I found with the 3-legged/single front front leg type was a bit of instability now and again.
  15. I just chopped the top off (and the rubbery bit out of the middle) and put on a knob that has a grub screw to hold it on. Why won't that make it a short shift - surely anything that reduces the ratio of above the pivot to below the pivot is shortening the shift, presumably anything that shortens the shift will need a larger force to shift it.
  16. If you follow Big Jim's link you will find links to Dave Andrews' site (HERE). Big Jim has talked about bending them to clear the tyres, I was wondering if they could be machined from the anti-roll bar itself ie chop it to length and thread the end for a spherical joint.

    Hood Insurance

There's a pinned thread about this in 'kit car related' if you want more info.
  18. Yes - you're right - it just appeared to have a few sharp edges.

    Hood Insurance

Mines through Roadsure - Comp, insured only, 1500 miles, 48yrs full licence with 3 points over 3 yrs ago, £102.
  20. There's a longer one which shows them making it which shows them in quite a good light I think:
  21. When you say 'very small' do you mean smaller than they appear on screen. They should be able to select 'full size' and then right click and 'save image as' at the same size as they have on their own screen. That may not be as big as the original however.
  22. You will need to reduce the size of the pictures (there's stuff available on the web and through a search on this board) or upload the photo to a web photohosting site and post a link on here and you'll get plenty of input. I have an S7, if you want, PM me and i'll give you my email address.
  23. Have you tried having it in his name with your wife as a named driver - it makes a huge difference to his premium - and HE builds up NCD. If she has 2 policies, she can get NCD on each but unless the company is happy to take your son on later, on the grounds that he has been a named driver as fozzy said, he won't be building any NCD.

    Gps Unit

I have a holux too - One of these - which works well and are undoubtedly available cheaper or secondhand. Regarding the poor signal, I do find sometimes that if I acquire the satellites well initially, like hold it flat, maybe outside the car, that it holds them well thereafter where it wouldn't always acquire them well to begin with. Does that make sense? Might be worth a try.
