  1. Guys, there is a "Run What Ya Brung" 1/4 mile sprint event at North Weald airfield on 16th May. J.7 M11 http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?pc=...irfield+%2D+Map I cant find any details yet, but last year it cost £10 to spectate & another £10 to enter your car for as many runs as you can fit in (queues allowing). I'll add more details as I find them. Bring your licence, & a helmet for open top cars. I'll be there..... Bob.
  2. Gents, my other toys are model aircraft. I have just started into electric powered jets & one of the best impeller units and hi tech motors comes from a German company WeMoTec. Check out the Midi fan at the following site. Sorry its in German, but you can check the specs. http://www.wemotec.com/ Spot the similarity to the "Original, Unique, Patented" electric supercharger, Mat's Ebay item no. 3. While they are very good at powering small planes weighing up to 1kg, IMO they simply dont shift enough volume of air to make much difference to an IC engine. I'm no mathematician, but take a 2000 cc engine which is just an air pump, running at 6k rpm, that means (1000((its a 4 stroke))x6000) = 6,000 litres of air per minute just to keep up with the IC engine. It needs even more to pressurise it. There is also a huge price difference!! Cheers, Bob

    Daughters

I have just completed my third. I found the initial setup enjoyable, but had to have the first two professionally delivered, due to lack of experience. I true Hoody fashion, I then decided to deliver the third myself, due to the slow arrival of the booked professional. Despite lengthy periods of depression, frustration, bankruptcy, and loud noises late at night, (exactly the same experiences I had building the 2B), all 3 have now been completed to a satisfactory level. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES attempt to understand or tamper with female wiring. It is fundamentally different to the male version, and can only be made worse. My advice would be to watch all the videos available, pay the joining fee (equal to 110% of your income), sign up for Tai Chi lessons in serenity and patience, and just...... DON'T PANIC! They all work out well in the end Bob.
  4. What a useful site. I especially like the fully adjustable steering column support. How much easier than the L shaped lashup which bolts to the servo plate in a 2B? BT.
  5. I'll be bringing mine on SUnday. I put it together the evening before I went to LeMans last year when I saw 32 degree forecasts. I have a very fair complexion (alright, especially on top!) & didnt want to get burnt. It looks a bit Heath Robinson 'cos the boss's sewing machine couldnt cope with the vinyl I had spare, so I had to glue it. Its far less claustrophobic than a full hood, but almost as much protection with the side screens in place The Mk2 version will be made of material from a sailmaker (but not lightweight sail material). He makes boat tonneaus from it...it looks like the red material used for Elise hoods. Cheers, Bob.
  6. Found some chicken pictures here...... http://www.hobby-lobby.com/field_chicken.htm Bob.
  7. I'm planning on bringing a Flying Chicken with me on Sunday. Kids of all ages should find it quite amusing so long as we can find a reasonable sized grassy area to fly it over. For more info, look up "Graupner Funky Chicken" Cheers, Bob.
  8. I'm almost scared to suggest it, but...... Ive just fitted a set of RS Jigtec wishbones. The dummy upper strut they supply is really neat. They are designed to take the Transit ball joint, if that helps. Why not call & see if they would supply the struts on their own? Bob could supply all relevant dimensions, ie length & taper. Cheers, Bob.
  9. I made up a temporary L shaped post from 1" wide flat steel bar, & glued it under the bonnet with No More Nails. It came off fairly easy post SVA. Bob.

    Insurance

Just a point to check. I have two "normal" cars one insured with Direct line one with Churchill, both include RAC cover for the car regardless of driver, & the policyholder in "any other car". When I quizzed them, they both said that the breakdown cover does not cover any car over 15 years old. I explained my Hood was first registered in 2002, but they wouldnt budge because of the B reg. Beware! Bob.

    Webber 38dgas

Hi Ant, I'd suggest fitting main jets per the NW site first, but the best way is to get it set up on a rolling road. I have twin 40s which seemed fine, but I had a power run on the rolling road at Detling & power was down on what I expected.. So I have just paid £65 to have the whole engine set up on a local rolling road at a Weber agent. He adjusted the carbs, & the ignition timing & re-timed the cam on a vernier pulley. He found another 20 bhp, got rid of an annoying hiccup on acceleration, & found an extra 5mpg. Money well spent I reckon. Cheers, Bob.

    Webber 38dgas

Hi Ant, check that the acceleration pump squirts a jet of fuel into both venturis. The DGV & DGAS jets look identical, but the DGV has one hole, directed at the first (smaller) choke near the cam cover, the DGAS has two. Bob.

    Nearly On The Road

Go to Gillingham...... They get more than their failure quota from all the factory built Caterhams. On my last visit, they had 3 Caterhams. One passed on its second attempt, one passed on its third, and the bike engined version failed its third test while we were there....We smiled!!!! Perhaps the retest fees account for their high price? That must leave the door wide open for RH passes...? Bob.

    Detling

I got chatting to my old mate Bob, Mr Jigtec, while I was at Detling. He asked me to put my car on the dyno to drum up a bit more business for poor Sid, who was standing there freezing trying to keep his tent on the ground. When he unfroze his PC, it turned out that my car was way down on the power I was expecting (by 20bhp). Mainly because the DCOEs were way out of tune. On the Saturday night, I went back home & rechecked the cam timing (it was a bit out) & the ignition timing (a bit out), and it felt much more reponsive after. It's in to the local Weber agent to have the carbs setup properly on the dyno tomorrow. Otherwise, I enjoyed the show, a bit small, but very friendly. Cant wait for Stoneleigh now. PS its a big weekend at Santa Pod over Easter (weather permitting) There are a few new cars which have been bought from Sweden & the States, which should liven things up a bit. One new top fuel car is reputed to be near 7000 bhp. (Yup, seven thousand). I'll be there!!! Bob.
  15. That's what makes them so much fun, nobody is scared to try something new, and they all come out very individual. Go for it!!!!
  16. Hi Phil, I bought a replacement screen surround with the rounded edges, so I have a spare surround which is square edged. You'll need to round the edges off yourself for SVA but a fair number have passed that way. I'll be going to Stoneleigh, I'm based in Orpington Kent. Buy me a burger at Stoneleigh, & it's yours Bob
  17. Hi Adam, The steel panels dont add much to the overall weight of the car. Its got a beefy chassis, a very heavy engine, and a lardy rear end with the whole of the original Sierra setup. Also the weight of GRP resin adds up very quickly, and the weight loss would probably not be very big. Also think about the level of protection from steel vs grp if you have a side impact. But you could make a really swoopy body, with loads of compound curves which we cant get in steel. A 2B was never designed to keep up with a Dax Rush, but I guarantee your grin will be at least as big as your Dad's. Just remember you will be enjoying your drive that bit longer!!!!. Dont worry about creaks, groans, or reverberations......there are absolutely none. Blag a ride in one over a rough surface to see for yourself. Bob
  18. I have some sliding pillar bits, springs, shockers, & a pair of modified hubs (but no shafts). I'll be at Detling on Saturday, yours free, with commiserations, to the first one to ask. Bob.
  19. The problem is that the hood lifts off the top of the screen at any speed. I glued a D shaped hollow rubber tube to the top of the screen which fits in front of the padded "pillow" at the front of the hood. Airtight, watertight, works a treat. Bob.

    Detling Convoy

Well, the DIY RSJigtec wishbones are all on & finished. The MOT was passed today, the tax was bought today, so i'll be going to Detling both days. Leaving J4 M25 about 9am, collecting Len Trueman from Swanley in his 2B, then off to Detling via M20 for about 10 am. If anyone wants to join up, just let me know. See you all at the club stand, Bob Tucker
  21. Hi Goldie, the RHSC chassis is modified to take the RHSC wishbones. They probably cant be retrofitted....but knowing Hoodies, someone will do it. Also RHSC wont supply the wishbones. But who can supply the complete set to fit a previously pillared set up.... Say it altogether with me now..... RIZLA'S DAD aka RS JIGTEC. And blinking good they are too....ive almost finished mine it'll be ready for Detling. Cheers, Bob.
  22. Or youve left off a vacuum connection somewhere, or theres an air leak into the carb or manifold, or the ignition timing is way off, or the valve timing is way off. It a long process of elimination really Tak. Good luck with it. Bob.

    Broken Arm

Yep, it's a mid life crisis thing. I started out with bikes, road raced as a passenger on a sidecar for a year, got told to "stop it" when I got married, got into bangers then hotrods then stockcars instead, got told to "stop it" when the first sprog came along, got sensible for a few years, then decided to get back on a bike....scared myself silly so I told the Boss that I'd better get something with 4 wheels "so she wouldnt have to worry", then on to Stoneleigh in 2000, put a deposit on a 2B... got told to "stop it" several times at 1pm (angle grinding & hammering only) still get told to "stop it" revving the engine in the garage to identify that slight misfire at 5,500 rpm..... Its a wonderful life...... Bob.
  24. Hi STu, I have a grotty carrier bag full of slimy pillock bits that ive just castrated. I'll see if I still have the bushes I used in there. email your address off group if you want them posted off, or I'll be at Detling. Cheers, Bob.
