  1. That sounds remarkably like the noise my cam made, just before the car went onto the breakdown truck! When I took the followers out the damage was apparent, the number 1 cylinder exhaust follower was about 2mm thinner than the others and what should be a polished face looked like a ploughed field. The damage to cam was not easy to see but once out using the finger test I could just feel a bad spot on the closing side of the lobe. I wondered if the followers would come out with the head still on? Just to check. http://community.rhocar.org/index.php?show...mp;#entry154480
  2. Bigger picks as requested Follower on the left was the worst but the others did nor fair well from the abuse. As far as running in I started it, ran it for just a few mins then shut it down. Adjusted the timing and started it again did this a couple of times, so no running in as such. Wont do that again. Standard cam from Ford.
  3. Sunday on the way to Stoneleigh my hood broke down, well I let my Hood down. The noise coming from the engine was unbelievable, I thought it was a big end that had failed. Rebuilt the engine last winter. 4k miles later we were stopped just off the M69 waiting for the breakdown truck. The only reason I can think of is that I didn't run the new cam in correctly, which I will be doing once the replacement is in! I insured with Graham Sykes and included breakdown cover and it was excellent. Called them at 09:30 and by 11:00 we were back home. And by 3:00pm I had found the cause of all the noise and loss of power.

    Retirement

Good move Ian, seems the tribe don't want to let you go though. Back part time sounds good to me. Wind down slowly ready for the onslaught of full retirement! I was given the key on December 31st but they kept on moving the door so I couldn't use it. Eventually gave in and back on a 6month contract from Jan 2nd. Finish just in time for the summer! Newark is just up the road. Are you ready for some runouts?

    Agm - Constitution

Having read and agreed with Alan's posting I thought about memberships and how it could be handled. "Change the membership year to a rolling one from your joining date - removes the big peak of renewals?" The problem here, as I see it, is that the bulk of renewals will stay at the same time of year until new members outnumber the "old" ones. Also there will be the members who will "push" sorry "forget" their renewal date throughout the following year. Having one date has the advantage that there is a cut off date that all memberships cease until subs are paid. The non payers loose the benefits on the website and are shown up by having their names shown in the old color. Perhaps the cut off date does not have to be around Christmas. Proposal (Prepare to be shot down in flames)(Especially by area secs) The only way to eat an elephant is a bite at a time! I know how some view data held about themselves but this data could be used to raise funds and therefore be self financing. Manufacturers and Magazines should be interested in buying into one of the biggest car clubs in the country. If you don't want your details included option to opt out. Membership Overview Procure a server or server space for a database of members. Internet access required to the server. Only include data that is currently known about members. Admittance to the server is log on name and password protected. Memberships to be administered by the Area Secs. Database to be accessible only by area secs and club administrators. Area secs will have access only to "Local" members details. Membership Process. A National Membership sec will be required. Membership forms for 2008 are received and processed as per normal. The database is built up with the membership over the next 12 months. Every member is assigned to an Area. There is a National Area for members where a "Local" area is unrealistic. When renewal is required forms are sent to each member. Forms are returned to area sec. Area secs update database with any changes necessary.New members address changes etc. Subscriptions are paid into RHOCaR bank account. National Membership Sec balances bank account with receipts from areas. Possibility of on line renewal Updating renewed membership accounts on community will be lass labor intensive. Address labels could be produced centrally for club magazines and promotions. Members that have not renewed could be removed from the database on an agreed date. Calendars This will remain a labor I think, although with an accessible database addressing would be easier.

    Year End

Sue Tim and family. I have only known the club with Sue and Youself at the helm, as I joined the previous regime must have been on the way out. This decision must have taken a great deal of thought and the conclusion must have been very difficult to realise. The RHOCaR members owe you a great deal for making this club what it is and the community spirit you have generated We hope you will take the experience you have had and the friends you have made into the future with you. Both Marilyn and I wish you well for that future and look forward to seeing you in the New Year.
  8. This one is pretty slick since they provide YOU with all the information, except the one piece they want. Note, the callers do not ask for your card number; they already have it. This information is worth reading. By understanding how the VISA &MasterCard Telephone Credit Card Scam works, you'll be better prepared to protect yourself. One of our employees was called on Wednesday from "VISA", and I was called on Thursday from "Master Card". The scam works like this: Person calling says, "This is (name), and I’m calling from the Security and Fraud Department at VISA. My badge number is 12460. Your card has been flagged for an unusual purchase pattern, and I'm calling to verify. This would be on your VISA card which was issued by (name of bank) did you purchase an Anti-Telemarketing Device for $497.99 from a Marketing company based in Arizona?" When you say "No", the caller continues with, "Then we will be issuing a credit to your account. This is a company we have been watching and the charges range from $297 to $497, just under the $500 purchase pattern that flags most cards. Before your next statement, the credit will be sent to (gives you your address), is that correct?" You say "yes". The caller continues - "I will be starting a Fraud Investigation. If you have any questions, you should call the 1- 800 number listed on the back of your card (1-800-VISA) and ask for Security. You will need to refer to this Control Number. The caller then gives You a 6 digit number. "Do you need me to read it again?" Here's the IMPORTANT part on how the scam works the caller then says, "I need to verify you are in possession of your card." He'll ask you to "t urn your card over and look for some numbers." There are 7 numbers; the first 4 are part of your card number, the next 3 are the security Numbers' that verify you are the possessor of the card. These are the numbers you sometimes use to make Internet purchases to prove you have the card. The caller will ask you to read the 3 numbers to him. After you tell the caller the 3 numbers, he'll say, "That is correct, I just needed to verify that the card has not been lost or stolen, and that you still have you record. Do you have any other questions?" After you say, "No," the caller then thanks you and states, "Don't hesitate to call back if you do", and hangs up. You actually say very little, and they never ask for or tell you the Card number. But after we were called on Wednesday, we called back w ith in 20 minutes to ask a question. Are we glad we did! The REAL VISA security Department told us it was a scam and in the last 15 minutes a new purchase of $497.99 was charged to our card . Long story - short - we made a real fraud report and closed the VISA account. VISA is reissuing us a new number. What the scammers want is the 3-digit PIN number on the back of the card. Don't give it to them. Instead, tell them you'll call VISA or Master card directly for verification of their conversation. The real VISA told us that they will never ask for anything on the card as they already know the information since they issued the card! If you give the scammers your 3 Digit PIN Number, you think you're receiving a credit. However, by the time you get your statement you'll see charges for purchases you didn't make, and by then it's almost too late and/or more difficult to actually file a fraud report. What makes this more remarkable is that on Thursday, I got a call from A "Jason Richardson of Master Card" with a word-for-word repeat of the VISA scam. This time I didn't let him finish. I hung up! We filed a police report, as instructed by VISA. The police said they are taking several of these reports daily! They also urged us to tell everybody we know that this scam is happening.

    Louder Indicators

I have one of the louder ones fitted for over a year now, after wearing out 2 flasher units having left the indicators on. Works a treat wired in parallel with the dash light. Just becomes a bit of a pain when queueing for a long time. But you dont leave it on!

  16. We will be leaving Melton about 08:30 on Saturday. For the Lion Run we have met at the Redhill Roundabout petrol station to leave at 09:30. Is there anyone going to be there? If not we can come up the A1 and meet up with Ian and Carole at Blythe and make it up from there. I have put together a route which avoids the A1 and M1. BUT IT IS NOT TRIED AND TESTED! (speed humps, bad roads, bad traffic, turning around etc) Starting at the Redhill Roundabout, goes up west of Sheffield through the Peak District. Through Huddersfield Halifax Keightley and Skipton. Then south to North across the Dales. If anyone wants to cast their eye over it please PM me with your email address and I will forward it to you. We are going; the forecast looks too good to miss and I have paid for the room! Marilyn & Derek.

Well what a burger, we have enjoyed this run for the last couple of years. Only takes a few idiots to spoil the fun for many, dont blame the landlord, seems the only way out for him. Good suggestion Bazwaz. We will be at the Service Station for a 09:30 departure on 4th August. Hope we will have some company, its a long run on your own. Bedale for lunch about 12:30- 13:00 sounds good. If you can let us know where, dont know that area at all. Room is booked "NO CAMPING" is still the house rule.

    Retro Rides

Sounds like a good day out. Just need to get the required paperwork together to apply for a passout. SWMbO might just come along for the jolly too, that will save some of the paperwork. Thats assuming we make it back from the Lion Run in 1 peice.

  24. From Mrs O Why women should avoid girls night out after they are married... The other night I was invited out for a night with 'the girls.' I told my husband that I would be home by midnight, 'I promise!' Well, the hours passed and the margaritas went down way too easy. Around 3 a.m., a bit loaded, I headed for home. Just as I got in the door, the cuckoo clock in the hall started up and cuckooed 3 times. Quickly, realizing my husband would probably wake up, I cuckooed another 9 times. I was really proud of myself for coming up with such a quick-witted solution, in order to escape a possible conflict with him. (Even when totally smashed...3 cuckoos plus 9 cuckoos totals 12 cuckoos = MIDNIGHT!) The next morning my husband asked me what time I got in, and I told him 'Midnight'. He didn't seem *bleep* off at all. Whew! Got away with that one! Then he said, 'We need a new cuckoo clock.' When I asked him why, he said, 'Well, last night our clock cuckooed three times then said 'Oh *bleep*'. cuckooed 4 more times, cleared it's throat, cuckooed another 3 times, giggled, cuckooed twice more, and then tripped over the coffee table and farted. Got the ticket ready to collect my coat.
