Id say its a late 3A with the external coil overs cause its a monocoque but even then it dosent look right, and it has a fixed rear axle

Looking closely, it has the folds of a series 3 but the rear cockpit panel is a little too upright. It almosts looks as if it was an early prototype tub that never got finished. Without the tunnel and the rear end metal it looks like it would fold up if you sat in it.

I agree.

But, I think it has (in the main pic) some nice lines in a boxy, angular sort of way and could be turned into an interesting project (maybe not quite Lotus 7 style, though) with a bit of thought.

Still be worried about rigidity & strength of the chassis though.

how do you loose a transmission tunnel?

You just undo the bolts and that will Loosen it.

But if you meant "Lose" I have no idea   :p :p

Joey says its an S7 rear end :D :D

Box section under the dash mine has tube frame holding the steering col and none of the upright boxes in the engine bay as mine has inboard shocks

It's not a mark 1, 2, 3 or 3A, but it does look like an Exmo with the buttresses removed, yet it can't be an Exmo with a live axle. It's also not a "standard" Cortina or Dolomite one, but I believe it could be an ex-prototype of the early monocoques.

could it be mk1 / 2 escort based? The exhaust manifold looks like it has been modified from a rwd application with the pipe going near the tunnel, rs2000 escorts used that carb i think, looks like a 4 speed box, does anyone recognise the axle?
