Hmmm...i think we should contact the CDC...that UK mental disorder appears to be spreading...the most severe one, in fact...

Shame to hear about the engine. I assume it is on the first l/w mk II? What happened?

hi scott

its the engine on the lightweight .

stripped it today and found a washer in the rear piston well.

the only place this could have come from is when the carbs were removed and refitted by the guys that tuned the carbs and fitted the new dissy.

its damaged the piston only .

so i fitted the spare engine to day and should have it running tomorrow.

so i aM RUNNING AROUND THE WORKSHOP TO DAY LIKE A MAN POSESED

gas axe in hand ready to cut the lightweight in half or as many bits as poss.

the problems

sun washer in engine and buggered

mon tues changed engine fitted head got it running

runs like a bag of dung (polite speak)

found linkage to carbs (twin 45s )not opperating cleanly and ballanced on both carbs .

ordered new linkages

thurs thought i ought to sort out why speedo stopped

the sensor (electronic) has been damaged

ordered new sensor.

now the ign light has ceaced to function alternator got wet trying to release air lock to cooling system after changing engine. might be the prob ?

trying to get to stonleigh on sun

so thought i would change the carbs and fit the old dellortos WRONG they now dont fit with the new programmed burton dissy

so off again and will have to wait for the new linkadges

after all the crap i have had with trying to get this car sorted i am seething .

still a few glasses of scotch await might make a difference and theres always tommorow.

so do i go or not?

shall i trailer it or will i get the crap ripped out of me

or if the bits arrive in time do i take the chance of driving a round trip of about 200 miles on an unproven setup .

a very pi ed of graham

Hey, you gotta go...the l/w mk II will never be bigger than right now. You gotta show all those naysayers what can be done w/ a L/W. In fact, the chassis is the most important thing, not the engine (yes, i know you also want to get the engine right).

Maybe you can hook up w/ a caravan of hoodies...for support if you have a problem.

Anyway, have a good time.

ok

so i got to stoneleigh most of the car peformed as it should with a couple of exceptions.

the front wing stays cracked and had to be removed prior to comming home.

ordering the new stronger vertions.

the carbs were fine when ileft here but by the time i got to stonleigh they had gone out of ballance.

appart from these little probs i found the spring rates to stiff.

i mentioned earlier that i had 350 lbs all round that was wrong they arew 300lb.

i am trying 170lb rear and 200lb front

let you all know how things go.

regards graham
