2B Wishbone Conversion

Hi Richard,

If you make a kit, please incorporate the threaded tube on the top wishbone at

an angle, (pointing up at right angles to the dummy strut) not in line with the wishbone.

Every wishbone Ive seen (including the ones I got from STS/RSJIGTEC)

makes the top balljoint lock up before the wishbones have fully dropped.

I guess this could be solved by using a shorter coilover, but the geometry wouldnt be so good then.

The bottom wishbones are usually correct, but mainly because the balljoints themselves

are fitted into an angled plate which is bolted to the wishbone.

(Peugeot 306 or similar).

I'll take some pics later today to explain.

BTW RS Jigtec were doing a roaring trade with their conversions, but went out of business

before the pent-up demand had been satisfied. I still have a copy of their fitting instructions which

"nearly" worked. I have made a note of the necessary changes.

The only specialised part of the job is welding a flat U shaped bracket onto the round chassis tube.

Any Hoody could set it up with clamps & careful measurements etc

& get a competent mobile welder to finish it off.

Cheers, Bob

Nice one Bob that should do it :D :D :D

hi richard

so the interest is there!

all you have to do is set it up and you have a ready market .

i would think there are alot of pillor 2bs awaiting the upgrade .

and a happy new year

Fab so all we need to know now is how much and when :D :D :D

Sorry guys,

the RS Jigtec instructions are nowhere to be found :( :( but they were pretty basic...

They would only work with the RS jigtec 'bones because Bob designed the lower wishbones so that one of the lower ball joint mounting holes lined up with the hole in the bottom fixed 'bones.

It used a Peugeot 306 bottom ball joint, which comes complete with a 3 hole mounting plate.

One bolt doubles up to hold the coilover bracket, which is later welded on.

You bolted them together, then tacked the brackets on the lower chassis rail

BEFORE cutting off the lower fixed bones.

Then you clamped the upper wishbone brackets onto the upper rail so that the upper balljoint was

more rearward than the lower one (15-20 mm from memory) for caster.

This distance assumes that the dummy strut was a certain length, but you could always set it

to an angle instead.

Then it was down to moving washers to fine tune the caster.

They also used a standard Sierra rack so the track was much wider.

(BTW I still have an unused reconditioned standard Sierra rack for sale

Looking for £30 if anyone is interested in this conversion.)

It may even be worth contacting STS (Sids Tune SHop) who started out making the conversion, then

sold it on to RS Jigtec because Sid couldnt keep up with demand.

The expensive part of the conversion was the coilovers. I paid £350 for a DIY kit, but IIRC £150 of this was for the GAZ coilovers.

Then I needed two standard hubs, a new rack, a modified steering column, longer stainless brake hoses, modified cycle wing struts...etc...etc.

The conversion was well worth doing, but dont underestimate how much it will cost.

The idea of making a kit has come up, it would all depend on the number of people interested in it, as it is, most people tend to go with their own design and they are all different, we have made a few one offs for people, but it would be nice to develop a kit that is easy to fit and with the right geometry, the only trouble is peoples welding skills but I guess we could offer a fitting service.

if anyone is interested please email me

Richard

I have also developed an upgrade for the standard wish bone suspension, that puts the camber change right, and, has the new style wing bracket built in to it

Richard

I'm another one, would love to upgrade but a bit wary of buying all the bits seperately, a kit would be superb.

Thanks

Ian

hi all

just an observation no mention of the fitting instructions .

i dont want a cheapo rs productions with a dog running around ?

just clear precice instructions on how to fit the kit !!!!!!!!!!!!!

so that my hard earned is not wasted ,

richard we know that you are good at what you do ,

but you have to include full fitting instructions, otherwise twats like me dont know where to mount the

wishbone brackets .i as others dont have the engineering degree that you have.

the cost looks fair ,

but without good clear and precice instructions the market place will deminish.

Hi Richard,

Just saw your other post. That looks good. The RS Jigtec conversion required a change of steering rack from Metro? I think the pillock's had to Sierra.

Will this be the case here? It's not included in your kit so I just wondered if you'd supplied an adapter or something to get around that or whether people would have to source & fit one themselves.

Cheers,

Dan
