Heated Rear Window Rear

I went to demist the rear screen today and realised that with all the up and down action the hood has been getting, the wires have pulled the tabs of the screen that connect the wires to the matrix. I'm now left with four holes in the matrix where the tabs were. Is it possible to fix the tabs back on with something, soldering, special conductive glue???

I'm not sure I can get the screen replaced without getting a new hood and at some silly price I'd rather attempt all possible fixes before I even think about getting a new hood.

Any thoughts?

Ta v much.

ages ago i bought some rear screen repair conductive paint from Halfords,(imagine silver tip-ex) might be worth seeing if they still do a similar product and araldite the tabs back onto the window and reconnect to the window by carefully painting and bridging the divide.

a demist action on a robin hood rear screen?! where did you get one of them? I can only think it must be an aftermarket self adhesive element.

Sorry I should have said its on the MGF, not the hood. I'm saving the Hood for the summer months.

Try this stuff.

I have an old pot of Comma conductive paint in the garage. Had it for years and it still works. The tabs do take a little strain so I would use the paint as glue and to remake the connections but then clean carefully and cover all in araldite to give it some strength.

OOOeer. I did a copy and paste and then went to do the linky thing but did a quoty thing in error cos it's still early for me and it's come out quite well.

Cool will give it try and see how I get on.

Cheers,

Ordered the silver glue stuff and tried several attempts of getting it to stick long enough to araldite it but no joy. I got a little mad :diablo: and tried something else (don't ask  ) which just resulted in me breaking the rear screen into a gazillion pieces  So now on the hunt for a new screen which looks like it'll be around the £200 mark unless someone has a genius alternative idea for me :friends:

Is it worth checking with your insurer, may be covered by the windscreen bit. I recently had a window glass replaced and only had to pat the first £50, didn't cover the laptop that went out of the window though.
