Poker Pop-Up?

Hi Rich, Dan

Like some others have said, I have never had this issue. I use several PC's to access this site. At work and at home. Using both IE7 and chrome.

Never seen this problem.

If it was a server issue then everyone would potentially see it. If it was an Ad then again everyone should see it. I don't and neither do most others.

Logic would state that this is a localised PC issue which may have originated somewhere on this site previously or on a dodgy "Car Porn" site that you have all been on recently

Cheers terry, car porn is def reserved for the home computer lol....works PC is only the softcore rhocar stuff!

Like I said before, I don't really get this kind of stuff so I'm going to wait like what bob has suggested. With my (very) limited knowledge, could the reason for some people seeing the ad and others not be because some people's antivirus / pop up blockers are better and are blocking the site virus?

If it was just my home pc, then I know there is every chance it would be my comp, but with it happening to my work comp as well makes me think its something from the site.

Looking forward to the outcome of this one..

Ps....iPad - no pop up, mobile phone - no pop up

Can't seem to find this thread. Looked in Mats profile at his posts but its not showing. Is it in the private Mods section?

Sorry Rob, it is; why it wasn't on open forum I don't know; should of been a message to all in my opinion. As I don't know why it was restricted I'll have to leave it to Matt/others to open or not.

But why should there be such pop ups attached to a site such as this? Every page now is bombarding with adverts for all sorts, detracts from the whole experience in my view.

Oh and a couple of weeks ago when accessing the forum the poker site came up, I was automatically logged in, followed by a mass attack on my computer and took me 4 hours to cleanse it down! No previous issues or dodgy sites visited as works laptop. There is definately something not right, I have only just got back to being able to visit the site!!!!

It wouldn't be the first time an auto generating ad system was hacked, I think a couple of newspaper sites got hacked in a similar way last year and it was traced back to a Google ad redirect.

I think it's a good idea to have ads (virus free of course)) for non members, I few other forums I'm on do it and they don't put me off using and give the site some extra income, and but that's another discussion altogether.

Just to say, it's not because people's machines are infected that they are getting the popup. It's the popup which then tries to install the Trojan. If you have decent AV and you see the popup, you will almost certainly see an event in your AV logs to show that malware was blocked from the popup. And yes, it does only seem to be when going to the home page and not logged in.

Right, I'm backing out now as I do IT all day and got a kit car and joined the club to do something far removed from my day job. :-)

It should not be a problem for people who have adequate security on their PC or a pop up blocker active. It's only the same as MANY other websites which have popups for whatever reason ( usually revenue) and ultimately the webmaster has no control over the content in the third party popup . I had to report a similar issue on the American Express website a few years ago when I started seeing AV events being logged. No infections I hasten to add. Like I said earlier, it's when you don't get an AV alert that you need to worry.

So are you saying the topic we can't see confirms that it is an advert added deliberately to the site and not a virus on the server or home PCs?

That is my view,& only my view; being a computer numpty I don't know if/because of the ads it has caused a glitch.

I had forgotten & lost ( due to old computer throwing a big wobbly--blue screen) Matt's post & being a Mod. had not registered that it was restricted to us.

So am I right then? It's the rhocar site creating the pop-up, not my machine? Although the infected popup from the site will infect my machine if not got good enough av to block it?

Score 1 to the computer dumbass!

That's my view (not the dumbass bit)

So by the sounds of it this poker pop-up is a deliberate thing that rhocar have implement to presumably make a bit of money via advertising and thus help keep the club going!

I don't have a problem with this in principal, nor am I bothered about the popup's content. What I do have grievances with is;

1) the fact this pop up infects my computer.

2) we have not been given the heads-up about it before now! People (including me) have been posting about the Titan poker ad for weeks now and kept getting told its because of a virus on thier computers when all along certain people "in-the-know" must have seen these post but not said anything!

Neither am I bothered that the committee have made this decision without consulting the entire club first, but it's just that after the decision was made, some form of notification should have been made to everyone.

Above all else, the virus thing from the popup must be stopped because this is not good!

Of course if this ad is not deliberate, then it must just be a case of getting rid of it?!

As far as I know google ads where added to the site a while ago they should only be seen by community users and guests. Not members so when you sign in they disappear.

That's fair enough whiz, and this isnt aimed at a individual but....

why didn't anybody say owt when this was first brought to light at the beginning of march? Instead people (including me) were led to believe the popup was a result of a virus on their pc and the people who did know what was going off didn't say anything to correct this belief.

I log out of the website when I'm done at night and so when I next visit the site I'm not logged in and as such I get the pop-up.

More importantly tho, this Popup shouldn't be passing viruses onto everyone who sees it!!!

And whiz, you even responded in the following post when this was being queried by 5 different people at the beginning of march. I wonder how many other people read this and knew what was going off but chose not to say owt!

You must appreciate how frustrating it is being a computer dumbass like me and believing you've got a virus causing this popup and not being able to put it right....and then you finally find out that the popup is nowt to do with my PC but is from this website and as actually been causing the viruses!...and to top it off a number people have known whats been going off regarding these popup but have let people like me continue to believe they are a result of a virus on my pc and have not spoken up!
