New Exhaust

Hi all

The exhaust on my pinto s7 could do with replacing as it has various splits and repairs.

While I'm at it I'm keen to get something nice looking, definately fully stainless and hopefully to give a nicer sound/perhaps a tad more power?!

At present it comes out the side if the car as 1 pipe and I would like a 4 into 1 pipe so you can see the join, I will be taking the car to a performance and exhaust specialist next weekend and was wondering what questions I should be asking / price I should be expecting etc...

Any pointers would be much appreciated

Dan

They are both very nice! I like the s3 manifold, that's the look I'm going for,

Do they vary very much in terms of sound/performance?

Dan,

I used Ashleys in Birmingham excellent quality, smooth welds all stainless and bespoke manifold, expensive but worth every penny. Good guys and even gave me the final bill in two invoices so the wife will never know the true cost! The manifold is automotive art, the first manifold was slightly wrong and they scrapped it, I couldn't tell but there was a slight kink in the primary. Perfectionists.

The original non-pack able Robin Hood can was smaller and noisy from day 1 once the packing had settled it was bordering on painful, the Goderham can is twice as big and packable much more liveable.

I did some seriouse maths on primary diameters and lengths and found the S3 manifold ideal for my setup albeit with the collector enlarged to 3"

I then lost the plot and went for a 3" main pipe all the way to the tail

great, all good advice and the pics have given me some ideas, I have now put my location on my profile (north Norfolk), does anybody know of anywhere who knows kit cars nd would be able to fabricate one for me?, the only place I have found at the moment is sca performance and rally centre in Norwich, does anybody know about them or used them before?, thanks again Dan

:acute: Try MK they supplied me with a s/s repackable for my S7 26" x 6" much better but still needs repacking every yearit's the heat on a short system that kills them esp with wrapped manifolds mowerman :clapping:

Hi,

another thing to consider is whether you actually want 4-1 or 4-2-1.

my knowledge is entirely based on internet reading (dangerous) so please correct if i am wrong but i understand it that

4-1 offer more top end power (more suitable for track)

4-2-1 offer more mid range power (more suitable for road)

so depends how you want to drive. this talks about it http://www.redline360.com/garage/4-1-vs-4-2-1-headers-what-is-the-difference-what-makes-more-power

As said above if you can get them to build the system using mandrel bends it would be better for the gas flow.

Thanks for all the replies on this, I am heading to a place near Norwich tomorrow morning and they are going to have a look at the car and show me some of their work,

I really like the look of 4 into 1 but am now really worried about it detrimentally affecting my road performance, can anybody vouch for iether way?

Cheers

Dan

You won't notice a difference

You only need to worry on full race engines the difference between 4 into 1 or 4-2-1 on the road not much but both are better than standard manifolds

I would suggest not to long on the primary's

As stated before the newer 4 into 1 that came with the S3 was quite good

Primary's should be similar length

thanks for clearing that up as i said it was only internet reading rather than actual real life so good to know there is little difference.

I'm thinking of building my own manifold soon and was thinking of 4-2-1 but might be easier with 4-1.

out of interest is it better to have something short like this

4-1manifold.jpg

or long

I like the look of the long one out the side of the car but the shorter one will be easier to make i reckon.

thanks
